Week 17 - Great Britain F9 ($10,000) - Bournemouth (Clay)

DAs for Slabinsky, Fitzpatrick, Cox, Gabb, Carpenter, Hewitt and Martin.

O'Mara has a main draw wild card and other possibilities include Orton, Hudson, Carter and Malik all of whom were on the qualifying entry list but who are not in the draw. Orton and Hudson might have sneaked into the main draw if there was a late withdrawal or two.

Qualifying draw is pretty weak with just 36 players for a 48 man draw and only 9 ranked players. The top 3 sections are certain to see a Brit come through

Sorry, just couldn't resist correcting the spelling of "Bournemouth", having been there two or three times in my life!

Jonny's junior results have been less than spectacular but the one time I saw him play I was very impressed. He lost a very close first round match to George Morgan at the Chiswick futures last summer. Looked to have a very good forehand, a good attitude on court and lots of self belief. Seve was the big weakness that day, don't know if that is normal for him or not.

tournament in general looks weak. Great chance for some GB boys to pick up ranking points. I hope JFH has a decent week. He should qualify.

He's a tall 16 year old who is part of the Bath Academy group and I think he has signed up for a US College next year. He won 9 ITF junior matches in a row last autumn / winter and I was about to open a thread on a Bulgarian tournament he played this week when he lost in the quarters on Friday - possibly Bournemouth qualifying was a factor

Doubles Draw

R1: (1) Richard Gabb / Neal Skupski WR 1320 v BYE
R1: Oliver Hudson / James Ireland UNR v Jonny O'Mara / Cameron Norrie (NZL) UNR
R1: Scott Clayton / Toby Martin WR 2530 v (3) Alexandre Folie / Alec Witmeur (BEL/BEL) WR 1998
R1: Jarryd Bant / Jack Findel-Hawkins UNR v Florian Barth / Dominik Schulz (GER/GER) WR 2210
Non Brit Match
R1: (4) Jack Carpenter / Ashley Hewitt WR 2015 v Borna Coric / Stefano Napolitano (CRO/ITA) UNR
R1: Adam Skalsky / Mark Whitehouse UNR v Robert Carter / Ryan Peniston UNR
R1: (2) Andrew Fitzpatrick / Alex Slabinsky WR 2148 v Sam Hutt / Myles Orton UNR

That strongly suggests singles main draw wild cards for O'Mara, Hudson, Carter and Orton

NB: Slabba's doubles rank dropped by 500 places this week but his rank from last week determines seeding which is why he and Fitzy are seeded 2.

NB: The four matches without British involvement are the top two lines on the draw, the 13th line (Carpenter's potential R2 opponent) and the bottown line.

Good to see Fitzy here, I was thinking he might have got a pretty bad injury in Vietnam. But he's here to play none other than Adam Glynn.

Apologies, Dorsetman, if we don't shout too much for Adam against a forum member who takes the trouble to give us fascinating insights and updates from around the world. We may get a very first hand report on Adam's abilities from an interesting perspective !

Err..good luck, both.

Are you sure about Fitzy ?  I don't remember him getting injured in Vietnam.  The last I remember he was winning the doubles with JWH.  Maybe you are confusing him with Oli in Egypt ?
