The boys were broken to 40 in their opening service game & their Korean opponents then consolidated the break:  *0-2.  cry

Oh dear. And there was I, so confident in them that I was giving them the victory without their even having played! (Misread RJA's post ... thank you, RJA, for the correction!)

Still, hope springs eternal.

Nicolas Massu on his umpteenth comeback just walloped the guy who beat Kyle very easily yesterday. 6-0 6-2! Of course Massu has great pedigree, but he has NOT been playing at a high level at all for a long long time - certainly not even CH level, and I think the scoreline confirms that the Spanish/Bulgarian wasn't really a ringer - wonder what happened to Kyle yesterday?

Very good news having seen they'd lost the first set... the boys won 2-6 7-6(3) 10-4 and will play in the main draw

R1:  (Q) David Rice & Sean Thornley WR 444 defeated (2) Carsten Ball & Ryan Harrison (AUS/USA) WR 296 by 4 & 4

15 points in the bag for that win! biggrin

Totally outclassed them, Harrison couldnt put a return in court and Ball was very average. Very good win for the lads!

+ the 3 points for qualifying??

Yes, in the rare event that there is a qualifying event for the doubles ranking points are awarded in line with singles qualifying. Therefore 18 points so far for Dave and Sean.

Looking good for Daid and Sean with a break in the second set.

I guess it must be a really difficult decision as to where their careers lie - their doubles ranking is so superior to their singles ranking in that they could only play both at $15K or lower otherwise it will be doubles at high challenger level.

Does challenger doubles pay the bills?

When I saw Rice & Thornley lost the first set in MDs qualification a couple of days ago, I was very tempted to go on a rant about how I felt they've wasted the last month or two with bad planning etc. Some of that still stands in my opinion, but that is a great result, well done to them.

Meant to ask whether they picked up any for that & if so how many.  Draw sheet doesn't say.

One that seems to have been overlooked:

R1:  Facundo Argüello & Rubén Ramírez (ARG/ESP) WR 467 vs (WC) Daniel Regan & (that curiously named Spaniard) Georgi Rumenov Payakov UNR

Lambs to the slaughter... disbelief

Doubles qualies seem to be the norm in US Challengers. wink
