Tom was part of the all British Wimbledon Boys' doubles final back in 2010, I doubt many at the time would have predicted him to be the highest ranked of that quartet a few months into 2013!
*Not sure if he has enough points in the bag to be ranked ahead of Burton yet but surely given his form so far this year it's only a matter of time.
I can't claim to have predicted he'd be the highest ranked of the four of them, but having seen him play apparently nerveless tennis at junior Wimbledon in 2009, I'm not at all surprised that he's doing this well - I was far more surprised that he seemed to go off the radar in 2011 and 2012. It makes me wonder if he was injured some of the time or away at uni or something.
can't have been at uni unless he dropped out. if he was at uni this would be his last year
Interesting - Tom got himself in a bit of trouble by serving 3 DFs in the first 2 or 3 service games yesterday, and he's already upto 4 today in 3 games. Yesterday he cut them out for the most as the match developed, so I hope he can repeat that today - something to watch out for later in the season.
A little bit like yesterday. He managed to keep it close yesterday even break down second set and eventually his opponent must have cracked, so if he can not let this run away, will be chances
Thats a stunning win! Santanna really on the up and whilst more comfortable on the clay has an impressive all court game from the bits I've seen of him.
Speaking of playing types, I know very little of Toms. Does anyone know much about his style?
I have watched Tom play 3 times, albeit twice I wasn't paying full attention to the match. Tom's game strikes me as solid but not spectacular, no massive weapons but no glaring weaknesses. Seems to have a good attitude and is pretty calm on court.
His serve, while far from rubbish, is probably his biggest weakness. Even over the past few weeks where he has been winning matches he has struggled to hold serve and DFs is consistently a problem.
14 DFs to the other guys none - accounts for the loss of 3 and a half games, or one could say the difference between winning and being competitive in the first set.
