Tom was part of the all British Wimbledon Boys' doubles final back in 2010, I doubt many at the time would have predicted him to be the highest ranked of that quartet a few months into 2013!
*Not sure if he has enough points in the bag to be ranked ahead of Burton yet but surely given his form so far this year it's only a matter of time.

I can't claim to have predicted he'd be the highest ranked of the four of them, but having seen him play apparently nerveless tennis at junior Wimbledon in 2009, I'm not at all surprised that he's doing this well - I was far more surprised that he seemed to go off the radar in 2011 and 2012. It makes me wonder if he was injured some of the time or away at uni or something.

As things stand he will be 2 points behind Burton on Monday week. If he wins tomorrow he will go ahead of him.
Yes, I know, just wondering really if he took some time out from tennis. Looking back at his record on ITF (which is what I should have done in the first place ), he didn't play any Futures between July 2011 and April 2012, when he played in Bournemouth and retired against Matt Short in R2, then didn't play again until the second half of October.
So the April-October period definitely looks like an injury issue and it's more than possible that the period out leading up to last April was due to an injury as well - maybe he thought he was ready to come back in April but aggravated the injury or hurt something else.
If he did have injury problems for over a year, it must be all the sweeter to be doing so well now.
Btw, here's an interview with him from back in 2009, where he comes across as very level-headed, just as he did on court when I saw him:
Thats a stunning win! Santanna really on the up and whilst more comfortable on the clay has an impressive all court game from the bits I've seen of him.
Speaking of playing types, I know very little of Toms. Does anyone know much about his style?
