RE: Week 17 - Greece F4 ($10,000) - Heraklion (Hard)

Not looking so good now

Ed serving at *1-3

But he is a fighter and always good for a comeback.

I wasn't expecting this, I much admit. Gigounon has been very solid on serve so far - 12 points won, just 4 lost, while Ed is winning just 50% of his service points.

A solid tournament for Ed after a longish break, so not bad overall, and very hard to win first time out.

Very poor today, though....good to get days like this out of his system before the grass court season.

Next week's field looks weaker.

The result itself isn't a huge shock, disappointing yes but not totally unsurprising, the scoreline however most certainly is a shock.

I know Ed Corrie has done really well climbing the rankings but I wonder if he is this years Josh Goodall dominating Futures Events In Uk?
Anyone got an opinion on this?
Is he better than Goodall ?

Unlucky Ed, can't win them all.

Corrie has more talent than Goodall, Goodall is very much an emotional player and when he's on form and motivated it makes up for his lack of talent

Disappointing, more particularly the scoreline. But I think he's allowed a bit of an off day, especially after a break.

I think the coming months will give us much more idea of just what Mr Corrie has in his locker.

I see that he goes level on ranking points with Evo, but for now at their best, I think he's some way short of Evo. Maybe Goodall is the more relevant comparison, though Ed has certainly been much more consistent than Josh has been lately.

the reason I asked about the Corrie potential is I saw him in Glasgow last year he was not that great that day! However neither was Jamie Baker, but Jamie does attempt challengers

Mixing in challengers gradually will be important and usually gives the best impression of how far a player is likely to go. Interesting to see Carreno-Busta make the progression from futures straight up to ATP though and handle it well, so perhaps there is something to be said for playing future to near excess beforehand!

Didn't Carreño Busta have a couple of unsuccessful attempts at Challengers before heading to Barcelona ?

It would be good to see EDuardo CORRIEño Busta step up too.

I think you're right - but he didnt exactly hang around! Haha, I agree with you about stepping it up - no comments regarding the name!
