RE: Week 14 - Qatar F1 ($10,000) - Doha (Hard)

Excellent win - a qualifier in the next round and a good chance to get that ranking back where it belongs.

Bearing in mind that the top seed has been playing on the Spanish clay courts for the last few weeks, I may suggest this was not as big a shock as it looks on paper

Samper did play (and win) Bahrain F1 on hard last week though, so this isn't his first week off clay. In his tournament before that (on clay), he handed out 4 bagels and 3 breadsticks on the way to the Final before going down 9-7 in a final set tiebreak to Carreño Busta, the closest anyone has pushed the other Spaniard in his last 35 matches.

I'm very impressed with Dan's win (a 3h 45m match in 40C heat too, going by his tweet) and wasn't expecting it at all.

Might just be the lucky break that James needs to get his season going.

Well done both; Mr. Cox especially, a cracking win.

Dan won 7-5 ret. Can James make it an all-GB QF?

ITF scores playing tricks (and flashscores fell for it too!) - Dan actually won 6-3 7-5

Sadly, it seems I may have been right about 18-year-old Gaspar being a bit better than his ranking suggests:

L16: Dan Cox WR 618 beat (Q) Mathieu Roy (FRA) WR 930 by 3 & 5
L16: James Marsalek WR 606 lost to André Gaspar Murta (POR) WR 788 by 4 & 5 bleh

QF: Dan Cox WR 618 v André Gaspar Murta (POR) WR 788

Hopefully Dan, who I would say has been showing rather better form than James ( and I'd say, due to injury, is definitely underranked ), will put young Gaspar in his place.

QF: Dan Cox WR 618 beat André Gaspar Murta (POR) WR 788 by 2 & 2

SF: Dan Cox WR 618 v Cristian Rodríguez (COL) WR 633 (CH 618 last month)

The Colombian upset 8th seed de Loore today but last week took 3 sets to beat the player Dan beat a lot more convincingly today.

Good stuff. This week hopefully the first significant step in Dan getting his ranking right back up to its previous best and higher.
