Wow! How many first round defeats in a row now? Didn't see this coming after the AO qualies success.
Give us a sign Jamie!
Well I have nothing but admiration for Jamie, who has always made the most of his talents, but lets be fair, he had a soft draw in AO quallies. First round was a player outside the top 200, second round was a clay courter and the final round was the joke that is Donald Young. That doesn't mean that Jamie didn't do well to qualify but we really shouldn't have read to much in to it.
Poor indeed. He ll be ranked circa 300 once all his points come off as ironically playing davis cup with his break in between and after will do him more harm than benefit. I can't see any british player breaking the top 200 anytime soon within the next 2 years very depressing
jaggy, is Jamie taking a big break after the Davis Cup whilst his points at the end of April and middle of May come off or are you just assuming that he is not going to add points before the middle of May ??
Re top 200, I think James can get back there, but I am rather less optimistic about Jamie.
But I do share doubts about any other Brits getting into the top 200, by the end of next year anyway. Oli and Kyle are the best prospects for that, but I reckon if they get there it will be 2015 earliest.
If Josh Goodall was able to make it into the top 200 recently primarily on Futures points, then I should think that Mr Corrie would have at least a chance of doing the same. Certainly if he kept up his points rate from the first quarter of the year, he'd get there quite handily.
That's not a bad win for Jamie & John in spite of the apparent disparity in the respective pairs' rankings: John's currently at a career high of 69, while Jamie's slumped to 87, but has been as high as 23 (thanks in no small measure to a helping hand from "little bruv"), while Molchanov is currently the world n° 110, but has been as high as 85, & Stakhovsky a lowly 178, but with a career high of 33, so no slouch at doubles!

I think the top 200 question for the men will hang on the grass season, simple as that.
Jamie I would have thought was a good bet, but now I think its back to the drawing board, and I think its unlikely in 2013. His serve and game don't appear to be big enough. Like Indy, I'm certain James will return this year, but he may not trouble the top 150 again unless he can regain consistency, and discover an elusive second serve....always been his challenge.
For Ed to come through would be a spectacular performance, which is not impossible, but very unlikely. He'll need some Challenger success, i.e. some QFs and maybe a semi, and to have a good June. A Wimbledon WC and R1 win makes such an impact that I wouldn't rule it out. Even Dan Evans could also be an outside bet (I tipped him before 2013 began), but despite encouraging form, his choice of (and lack of) tournaments doesn't look to be sufficient to offer him the points platform to hit 200. I'm not sure what his plan is to accumulate the points. Simple as that.
Frankly any of our players who are ranked around 275 or better by the beginning of June should consider themselves to have a shot, even Josh and Boggo - 2 grass Challengers, 2 grass ATPs, and Wimbledon all at home within a month with WCs on offer provides plenty of points potential. But I don't think either will make it.
Outside 300 by June would make it highly unlikely, which with regret, rules out almost everyone else.
But it would be fantastic to see some breakthroughs from the 500 Club - the increasingly large rump of players in the 400-600 band - to move up to 250-350. Kyle, Oli, Marcus, Dan S might be good bets.......can't see any outsiders.
i still believe Boggo can get back there, needs a few good weeks at challenger level, but i think he's still got that potential in his locker.
I would question whether his fitness would be sufficient to compete week in week out at this level, but I certainly hope so too - would be a definite good news story.
Judging from what i saw of Jamie's match last night, he was outplaying his opponent form the back of the court, but as soon as Prakesh got a shortish ball, he advanced to the net and Jamie didn't have a clue how to combat the serve and volley game. Very disappointing.
