Week 12 - Russia F3 ($15,000) - Tyumen (hard)

This is gonna be short & sweet:

R1:  (4) Michal Konecny & Andrey Kumantsov (CZE/RUS) WR 1072 defeated (WC) Paul Brown & Robert Ziganshin (RUS) UNR by 3 & 3

Anybody heard of Paul Brown?  According to the ATP, he's 22, "inactive" & has won precisely $135 in combined prize money...

He reached a junior career high of 328 in 2009 (when he reached the QFs of a Grade 2 in Bolivia) and played Futures qualifying a few times in 2008-10 (all in Spain except for a month in Turkey in 2010), winning 9 matches but never getting close to qualifying. He then played doubles once in 2011, which was the last time he had playec on the ITF pro circuit before this week - his record in Futures doubles main draws is now 1-7.

You don't just "travel" to Tyumen for doubles, it's an industrial town on the western fringes of Siberia, nearly 2,000 km east of Moscow. Even Russians would think twice. How odd!!!

If he has a wild card, maybe he's based there for business or study and just decided he'd have a go at playing with a local player?

I would presume that it's so "odd" that it's not realy odd, and there is some rational explanstion. Be interesting to know what it is.
