Didn't see it, but sounds like a top effort from JB

Super match overall by Baker. Missed a couple of relatively routine shots early on in the tiebreak which turned out to be crucial but I was impressed with his level as it was a lot higher than his recent results would suggest. Close but not quite a cigar.

Doesn't matter about effort sadly he is going to drop at least 20 places down the rankings and has yet to win above futures level since AO qualifying in 5 attempts now.

Gutted for Baker, what an effort and deserved the win. Lots of positives to take from that to the outdoor challengers now

Darn !

But that's much more like it from Jamie, really good effort. Not sure what was previously up in recent weeks.

Anyway, good to see much more like Davis Cup required form from James and Jamie.

Rhubarb!
102 points each in the end.

Fine effort though.
If he could just find this sort of form more regularly, or even most weeks...

Hopefully he can build on this and soon start to put some good results together consistently.

As Jaggy presciently points out though, effort doesn't matter one jot.
Because we can all easily think of the many players who never train, and swan on to court, just swish a racquet about vaguely never trying to reach the ball if it's too much bother, but have still been managing to win the tournaments and grand slams, can't we???

Agreed. I certainly think I would take these two over say putting in Evans and Corrie at this stage. A relief to see both performing at a seemingly higher level this week. Depending on who the Russians field I certainly think that Baker and Ward would have chances in the Singles rubbers.

Agree on what i've seen this week Jamie and James are first choice for DC

Meanwhile Boggo is up against a player with a belter of a backhand- could be an interesting match.

One thimg I would say is that while it was a fine effort from Jamie ( sorry, Jaggy ), I'm not sure about spud's suggestion that Jamie deserved to win.

Overall points were level ( for what it mattets ) and he appeared to face more breakpoints and indeed matchpoints before the final one.

If it's a reference to general play outwith serving, that'd quite irrelevant. Serving is very much part of the game.

Strange - 9-9 in the tiebreak but I was sure Boggo had won the point at 9-8 ...
