Mel wins the first set 6-4

Just on the lack of depth, it will take time for these players to develop. I'm not expecting much except to be more competitive over the year. I noticed that Yasmin Clarke won and Amanda Elliot played on the British tour last week.

None of the players that lost in the qualifiers will go anywhere Paulisi most have been on the scene for some time. It's the fact that there isn't any talent at the moment that these players (not their fault) get wild cards in the first place.

Realistically if we can get 2 Brits through qualifying, that would be deemed a success

Also i wouldn't expect to much from the main draw other than Tara(assuming she has recovered). If we can get a first round win from the rest would be a bonus and for Tara to get to QF would be acceptable.

FQR: BROWN, Lucy (GBR) 16 684 beat KAWA, Katarzyna (POL) 5 414 6-3 6-3
FQR: WINDLEY, Jade (GBR) 9 442 lost to KONJUH, Ana (CRO) 865 6-7(5) 3-6

In the current climate 2/4 probably about what we would have expected

Looks a pretty decent effort from Jade there, I would have been pretty shocked if she had won.

Realistically, I was hoping for 2 from the other 3, of course 3 would have been great.

With Stevenson, I reckon you are never sure what you will get, If she is basically fit, she's probably still a pretty decent player. Still hoped that Emily could have got a win.

Great effort to get 2 through given the strength of the draw.
Mel playing better these last two weeks and Lucy fulfilling the promise shown last week as well.

And now just one more win in the main draw, girls, against a probably ( well, certainly in Lucy's case ) much higher ranked opponent and you can earn a whole ranking point. Pretty tough !

Yes it's a little bit like Kyle's efforts this year in Florida going unrewarded.

realistically Lucy's best bet is to draw one of the wildcards(bar Naomi) to guarantee a point

Yes, I was forgetting the MD WCs. Lucy would be a strong favourite to beat 3 of them and indeed probably give Naomi a good match.

Konjuh for one from the qualifiers is lower ranked, but....

Re Konjuh, she hasn't exactly breezed through qualifying, so will be interesting to see how she gets on.

I wouldn't say Lucy will have it easy. Katy Dunne and Anna Brogan have both had wins against ranked players. And also wouldn't say Jade losing to a player ranked in the 800s is a good effort either regardless of how up and coming she is. Was only last year Jade was being touted as top 200 player.

Err, what Konjuh has done so far suggests that she is rather more than "up and coming". Quite understandably, she is touted for very big things, though time will of course tell how much she fulfills many expectations.

To take any note of her senior ranking is a nonsense. It most certainly looks to me to have been a good effort by Jade.
