Konjuh had an injured shoulder and has withdrawn from Sunderland next week.
I think that explains a lot. Whilst I thought it was 50/50 whether Konjuh would win or lose the match, the fact that she struggled on every single serve (even at 15, she is a very tall well-built young lady, with genuine power from all reports) and barely won a point on return seemed odd for someone on a 23 match winning streak, including a top 40 win.
Her conqueror steamrollered her, but today is struggling against a player ranked in the 600s.
Tara had match points against An Sophie Mestach, who has made the final at Bath. It looks like she walked into a player falsely ranked and destined for better things.
As Phil mentioned, Mestach has been injured, so would have been higher ranked otherwise.
At 5-1 up in the final set against An Sophie, Tara appeared to hit a brick wall. So sudden was the change in momentum, I'd suggest on the balance of probabilities that Tara's illness and associated lack of stamina and fitness probably lost her the match as much as or more than her opponent's play. I believe that Tara was probably the class player in the field on current form (not to say Metach isnt on the up and up).
Sunderland will be a better benchmark for Tara vs Mestach.
F:Nicola GEUER (GER) / Lisa WHYBOURN (GBR) defeated Viktorija GOLUBIC (SUI) / Julia KIMMELMANN (GER) 6-3 6-4
Congratulations to Lisa, after very close MTB's in their last two matches, they cruised through the final
A nice sliver lining with which to round off this week from the GB girls. It has been a pretty clouded & gloomy one; both on court, and in forum. Never mind, the Sun will come out next week...

Are you thinking of the Rob-sun? Or the Wat-sun? (Sorry. I feel so bad for that pun that I won't, no I really won't, make a further pun on suns and watts ....)
