RE: Week 11 - ITF ($15,000)- Bath, UK - Hard

Naomi's matches appear very serve dependant at the moment. When it's good it's very good, when it's bad it really is bad. And her results seem to largely flow from how her serve is performing.

Generally seems understandably much more reliable indoors with weather variables taken out.

Yes the problem with Naomi seems to be the aces being matched by double faults. Had her serve held up she had the title last week of course. As we know a powerful serve in women's tennis is almost worth an extra point or two a game.

Thanks for your above post, Bob. interesting and well reasoned. I think that you are by nature quite a bit more to the positive side than I, and you have indicated partly why. But yes, I like a forum with different outlooks and we are all different. I look for general respect among posters and as you say those who choose to criticise not to be personally disrespectful.

Wow, these WC girls are certainly getting much more into matches than I ever anticipated. I do hope Katy can keep playing to a very competitive level here and see where that gets her..

Without following ultra closely, I had got the impression that her junior results were much more impressive of late. Still, a big step up.

Live scores has went a bit potty. I'm assuming Katy lost first set 5-7 then was broken at start of 2nd and has broken back for 1-1. Score however reads 5-5 1-1

I saw that too.  Now it is reading 6-4, 4-3.   In any event, Katy appears to be putting up a good performance.

Mel has made a decent start, but just got broken back when 4-2 up, whilst the all British tie is very even at the moment.

Mel loses making it only 2 Brits through courtesy of beating fellow Brits. No point going over old ground so good luck to the remaining two Lisa and Naomi. Think they might need it...

With Tara very possibly still below par, it was difficult to expect much more today, and I take some encouragement from how the WCs appear to have performed.

Lucy strikes me as maybe being in some pretty decent form without getting much reward of late. Some decent scores and I believe running into the Naomi serve in form can be rather difficult.

Interesting to see how Lisa gets on in R2. Unless anyone has seen it, we don't really know how relatively well Lisa and Sam played against their best form.

I saw most of the second set and Lisa did play quite well and won relatively comfortably in the end, so I would make her slight favourite for her 2nd round match tomorrow.

Edit - Although I haven't seen either play since the Bath tournament last year so hard for me to judge how well they each played compared to their best form.

As for tomorrow, I feel optimistic that at least one of the two will win.
