If Evo does win ( and I do think he has real talent, I know much less of Ed ) then I really do hope he can press on.
So far, the first coming of Ed had caught my interest much more than yet another coming of Evo. But I can understand a wish to see such a player succeed.
I agree with RJA that Ed is a good solid player, very fit, but has no big weapons. He may get to 250 - 300, but will be interesting to see how he copes at a higher level.
Some chat about Ed being solid, if unspectacular in his tennis. Nothing wrong with that, of course.
I did notice that he had a little success last year in Challengers against decent players. At Nottingham he beat Jan Mertl (solid top 200) and then took Gregor Zemlja all the way to a final set TB before going down. Gregor is a solid top 100 player, currently in the 60s who on his day plays spectacularly good tennis. Last year he beat Tipsarevic, Haas and Malisse, and lost out narrowly to Gasquet in Doha. He won the Nottingham Challenger, and got to an ATP Final, losing to Del Potro.
I haven't seen Ed play, but he must have something about him beyond fitness and a solid game.
And with those results will be seeded 2 for the Sunderalnd $10k (or possibly 3 if Dan for the third week in a row uses up a QWC and successfully makes the Main Draw), so should have excellent chances once again.
Sarah Borwell certainly isn't one for economy of expression. The GBTG board is full of long posts about - guess what - how jolly super it is to go to college. Free world, I guess ...

It is a heck of a consistency, which Ed must be congratulated on.
He now provisionally overtakes Dan in the rankings and closes in on Boggo ( next week's tournaments will also count to the post Miami rankings ).
Provisional GB rankings :
5. Alex 131 6. Ed 127 7. Dan E 125
If Ed wins Sunderland, it looks like he will be very vlose to the top 300. Will be really interesting to see how he gets on against higher ranked opponents in challengers.
Well done to Ed again - now W 28 L 4 this year! As Indiana says, he is now 'virtual' GB no. 6 for 1 April (i.e. after last year's Miami fortnight points come off and before any ATP/Challenger points from the next fortnight or Futures points from next week go on) and with this win, he has also overtaken James Ward in the 2012 GB 'race' - in which the 12 players in double figures are:
Interesting to see Dave and Tom sneak into the top 10 in this list despite not currently being in the GB top 25 overall, though as things stand, Dave is likely to move into the GB top 25 after Miami fortnight.

Obviously, Ed ended Dan's 13-match winning streak today. He also ended his winning streak in Futures finals (5) - in fact, Dan played 4 finals in 2011 and lost the lot then played 4 more in 2012 and won them all. This year he's already doing a bit of both!

Well done to Ed on another very good victory. As I said yesterday I have reservations about how far he can go but I certainly hope he continues his upwards trajectory.
