They all are Polly unless you use a smartphone. None on Bet 365 at all today. Saves me money from not losing anything today though. Dave rice 3-0 up two breaks in 2nd set. Dan 3-1 up a break. Will and Burt on serve.
Okay then, Liam Broady's match. Anyone who only likes to read gushing praise about British players then please stop reading, this post isn't for you.
I am honestly trying to be fair and I always try and be balanced when reporting on how a match went but I really can't think of a single good thing to say about Liam's performance today. He was terrible in almost every aspect of the game, his serving was dreadful, his ground strokes produced error after error and his occasional venture to the net resulted in some simply atrocious volley misses. Don't read anything into him breaking serve on 3 occasions, that was primarily down to Farquharson also serving badly (3 double faults in one game for the first break). Worst of all though was his attitude and demeanor which was unrelentingly negative for most of the match and frankly embarrassing and child like for much of the second set. I don't mind players berating themselves for playing badly but with Liam there seems no attempt to cajole himself into a better performance but just consistent moaning about how bad he is playing. Not having seen him play for a while I had hoped that he had out grown this, sadly he hasn't. I would imagine that he will also be fined quite heavily for his very loud foul mouthed tirade at the end of the match.
Based on this performance (how he beat Michon yesterday I really don't know) he is simply miles away from being a decent player and his ranking of 883 flatters him. Before worrying about technical matters he first needs to grow up and start acting like a would be professional tennis player.
Good solid performance from Gabb which resulted in a hard fought and deserved win. He will however need another gear to trouble Corrie who always looked like he had slightly too much for Daniell. Evo made hard work of what should have been an easy first set going from 4-1* to 4-5* before turning things round and taking the set on a tie break and then easily winning the second. Rice played very, very well and deserved his win. He was second best for much of the first set but hung on in and took his chance late in the set. He then raced into a 4-0 lead in the second set and was pushing for a third break when Westerhof suddenly retired without any indication of serious injury. I can't say much more about Smethurst's match than what his own tweet said "thoroughly outplayed".

Very sad to hear that. I was not concerned at all last season about Liam's lack of ranking improvement. I always feel that while a young player is still a junior and trying to mix both junior and senior events, it is very difficult to find consistency. I really thought that this season is where Liam would be able to focus on the next phase of his career and make significant strides in the right direction. His early season form (in the USA in particular) has not been what I had expected and whilst I know injury has played a part, I really hoped that yesterday's win over Michon would kick start his season. It is still early days, and he is still very young so perhaps we shouldn't judge his results too soon.
What is far more worrying is the attitude that you have spoken about. Form can come and go as everyone knows, but maintaining the right attitude through thick and thin is a must. Let's hope he improves on ALL counts as the season progresses.
