I presume this means that Dan's entry is all very last minute and unplanned.....for those for in the know about how these things work, is a QWC for a highly ranked player like Dan indicative of
1. Being too late, somehow, for a MDWC
2. Dan himself preferring a QWC, not wanting to use up any of his allowance of 3 MDWCs on such a low level event, so early in the year. I believe each player can request upto 5 QWCs in addition.
3. Wanting some extra practice (seems unlikely)
4. Being refused a MDWC for some reason
Dan seemed to go completely off the radar for 4 weeks after he played in week 5: no tournaments played, no tournament entries between week 6 and week 12 inclusive (at least), no tweets, no word or news about an injury. One poster mentioned he was on holiday - not sure if this was reporting fact, speculation, sarcasm or something else. Anyway, this seems a strange, sudden and seemingly unplanned way to come back on the scene, so perhaps there was an injury issue. Anyone know?

Dan didn't get a QWC, by the looks of it (i.e. it doesn't say WC next to him on the draw on the LTA site) or didn't need one in the end, anyway - there are byes in the draw even for non-seeds so even if he hadn't entered in advance, he'd have got in on site. As for a main draw wild card, perhaps he decided to play after they had been given out or perhaps he did ask for one but was refused for not having a good enough reason not to have entered in the first place, who knows.
Of course, as with all these cases of high-ranked players playing in qualifying draws when they would have been direct into the main draw has they entered on time, it's not the high-ranked player who will suffer because of his late entry (he's likely to get through easily and get some match practice on the courts as well), it's the unfortunate players in his qualifying section who lose out.

Quick question on the seedings - are the main draw seedings taken from the rankings issued from the ATP last night/this morning? I assume the qualifiers are from the previous week's rankings.
