Walkover is the other way around according to the LTA & ITF.

It might explain the fact if Neil is injuredunwell,  why he did so badly in singles.

Yes, Neil hasn't had a great start to the year, certainly in comparison to last year, which impressed many of us ( see many comments about him not being in the AEGON funding group ).

But today was rather extreme..

Corrie to win the title, Shame about Marcus want him to do well but his good start to the year has come unstuck lately.

Yes, I recall a number of us singing the praises of Neil and Sam Murray after their excellent performances last year. Both have started 2013 with rather average results, to say the least. As Indy says, Neil's scoreline today is extreme. First of all, full credit must go to Jack FH for another super win.

But surely there must be a story behind the story on this one. Bad day at the office just doesn't seem appropriate, given Neils consistency over long periods in2012. Illness perhaps? Hopefully Neil's knee problems are well behind him now. Anyone in Cardiff with the real scoop?

I think the reality is that there was a massive over-reaction to Neil's performances last year. There's no disputing that he did well, particularly considering the length of time out with injury, but there wasn't anything to suggest a top 200 place was waiting. I've seen him play a few times, although not since his return, and as much as I'd like him to do well, his game doesn't compare to the likes of Boggo or Dan Evans.

I wouldn't be surprised if Alex beat Ed tomorrow.

Sorry about that!  ashamed  Can't get on-line at home at the moment, as my laptop died on me on Sunday (    ) & I'm now waiting for a replacement to be delivered.

It certainly makes more sense, but the ITF site very definitely had Neil & Marcus as the "winners" when I checked it shortly before making that post.

Makes sense that Neil's team pulled out of the doubles. We speculated that Neil's 1 & 0 loss to a player about 1000 places below him must be more than just having a bad day at the office, and this withdrawal would indeed suggest there was a problem

Alex is 5-3 up on Ed

Richard G is a set up on Jack FH

Jack C having a tough time against Freddie 1-6 1-4*

Alex duly breaks again to take the first set 6-3 against Ed

Freddie should really have this tournament in the bag. He is a class above everyone else with a false ranking. I'd like to see how Ed would get on against him, but he is in trouble against Alex Ward at present.

QF: (8) Freddie Nielsen (DEN) WR 491 beat Jack Carpenter WR 732 by 6-1 6-1

Not the most surprising result of the week and all-in-all, a positive week for Jack who seems to have missed a lot of pre-season this year.

Alex breaks Ed to go 4-2 up in the second set, but Ed has his first break points of the match in the following game

Just looking at the entries for Shrewsbury next week - Nielson and Ward, Smethurst not down(latter 2in Lille 15K), otherwise generally a similar field to this week, bar Michon who will be the second seed. I wonder if Bloomfield will be fit to play? Definitely looks like another good opportunity for Ed Corrie to move up the rankings.
