As expected both Ed and Freddie are comfortably winning their semi finals. It will make an interesting final to see how far Ed has progressed. I would still make Freddie favourite.

Doubles final will be interesting - i fancy the top seeds to get turned over.

Will be a close call, but Rice & Thornley as a team seem to be greater than the sum of the two parts.

Ed has just won 6-2 6-4
Freddie 6-4 5-2 up

In terms of the Thornley and Rice - they should really be playing at a higher level, but i'm guessing the lack of prize money in the doubles and their lowly singles rankings will mean they keep playing 10K's until their singles rankings significantly improve.

SF: (4) Ed Corrie WR 385 beat Richard Gabb WR 756 by 2 & 4
SF: Lewis Burton WR 721 lost to (8) Freddie Nielsen (DEN) WR 491 (CH 190 in 2011) by 4 & 2

So, after Ed wins his 20th singles match of the year to reach his 4th final in a row and Freddie extends his current Brit-bashing streak to 7, we have the Final that looked almost inevitable after R1 ... and quite likely even before that:

FINAL: (4) Ed Corrie WR 385 v (8) Freddie Nielsen (DEN) WR 491 (CH 190 in 2011)

Btw today's win effectively takes Ed to GB no. 6, 1 point ahead of Evo.

In both SF matches today, Gabb and Burton managed to fashion a grand total of 1 BP between them. This is very poor really. Clearly the opposition was superior, but they aren't top 100 players, and over an entire 2 sets you should be doing better than this. Richard spoke after his QF of having one of his best ever serving weeks, and looks like Lewis had another good serving day with 7 aces and 13 BPs saved.

Its the return game, groundstroke production/consistency and point construction which seems to be a weakness for so many of our players compared to their European equivalents. Serving well only gets you so far. I'm starting to believe more and more in the clay court mantra that the LTA seems to be pushing, to help in overall game development......just a shame we barely have any clay courts in GB, and barely any clay tournaments!

Kyle should benefit though

Far be it from me to disagee with Steven EEK but I must..

Ed is defending 6 points. 10 points takes him to 107, still 4 behind Evo.

Re earlier question raised of this tournament counting for 1st April entries, it won't because there are no new rankings issued on 11th March ( during IW fortnight ).

Oops - I was aware that he had 6 points coming off on the 18th but I'd forgotten it was about to be Indian Wells fortnight (it seems to have come around far too fast!) so there would be no new rankings on the 11th.

Well done to David and Sean.

At least, as anticipated, they finally got some sort of challenge, although still added their 5th bakery product in 4 matches in that first set.

Hopefully they can move on and start getting more success at challenger level, for they are not generally being tested that much in futures.

Not happening for either in singles, so in their case it may be time to put all their eggs in the doubles basket.
