Not necessarily - although it wouldn't surprise me.
It has stopped raining here although it is still very dark and overcast. Having said that, courts here (particularly clay courts) tend to dry out quite quickly once the rain has stopped, so you can never be sure.
Sort of hoping it's a wash out though, as it may give me a chance to get to the match if it is rescheduled for tomorrow. They don't call me selfish for nothing
yeh i thought that may be the case. wouldnt mind one myself probaly, then us and kyle can put our minds to rest and look foward to it tomorow, rather than waiting around essentialy maybe for nothing, and the bonus you can go watch ofcourse
Just noticed that the match before Kyle's has just finished, so play must have got underway again in Spain.
Would be very surprised if they start any more matches tonight, given the late hour....but you never know. Maybe a set could be a possibility before it gets too dark.
Whilst I didn't see Korriban's request to ask about Kyle's scheduling, I did coincidentally ask Beechy about the rest of the season's plans. Great minds think alike eh Korri
However, my questions were more along the lines of how they plan to maintain the balance of junior and senior events, given the desire to develop move up the rankings and also the ongoing ambition to win a junior slam. Kyle will play the three remaining junior slams this year, but apart from that he may only play one other junior event - Milan was mentioned ?
With RG in mind, Beechy also mentioned that to get automatic entry into the junior event, Kyle will need to be inside the top 550 (?) and they saw yesterday's point as a massive and perhaps pivotal step in that direction. That was definitely an extra pressure on Kyle yesterday with that in mind.
Thanks for the great reports and insight into Kyle's schedule. The Trofeo Bonfiglio in Milan is the usual event chosen as a warm-up for the French, and normally has the strongest field in terms of cut-off of all the junior events outside the Slams
With Kyle's banked ATP points he is certain to at least be accepted for qualifying in the junior slams, but 550 is indeed the requirement for main draw direct entry. If he achieves that, then he will not only be in the main draws but will be seeded, and thus avoid the likes of Kyrgios in the early rounds.
Of course, very debatable ( unlikely really ) whether the single additional point from reaching R2 here in itself will prove pivotal. More important is the fact that it gives him a crack at a further 4 for reaching the semis.
With just the 3 points in total due off before RG ( 1 next week from Cartagena last year and 2 from Newcastle a week before RG starts ) a 6 point SF here would put him on a minimum of 53 ranking points for RG, and that currently looks very promising for a top 550 ranking.
Hopefully though he will be earning quite a few more points anyway...

Earlier - normally entries close 4 weeks before junior events, but Grand Slams have the option of applying for a 1 week or 2 week extension. I don't know whether Roland Garros has applied for an earlier cut, but usually I think they settle for 4 weeks. Incidentally I probably ought to add that there is a scenario where Kyle might not be seeded if he is in the top 550 at that point, but it is unlikely to occur.

I am going to assume that the scenario is 8 other juniors above him in the ATP rankings. Given that currently there aren't any, (I think), I agree that is not a realistic possibility.
Good, so that would be before the Newcastle 2 points come off. So his R2 win here will take him to a minimum of 51 points for RG, and a QF win take him to 55 points.

I agree with the Maths. Basically the three points to come off before RG have been "covered" by his exploits here in the last two weeks. But that would still leave him borderline 550. A win tomorrow is not essential as there will be other opportunities, but it would be good to "box that one off" and focus on other objectives.
Isnt this all a bit academic. He's still going in Catagena, has a weaker field next week in Croatia, then has 2 $15ks and 2 CHs in the US to count before RG juniors. With a fair wind he could be nearer 100 points than 50.
Mind you, if Kyrgios keeps going, he'll be out of sight for highest ATP ranked junior.....
