Was a bit worrying to read how close it all was, and maybe Kyle wasn't at his best today. But he seems to have battled really well, particularly in that final set ( certainly not fallen away as I have commented that he has before ). I am sure very satisfying to get the win.
Will be very interesting to hear Bob's observations.
Great battling win for Kyle, personally I believe playing in these types of tournaments is good for him in the long term. Yes there might be easier ranking points to be had elsewhere, but getting to the top 100 is not about the speed you do it, but surely it is about how prepared you are to take on the challenge when you get there.
BTW not denying that Busta is the class act in this field, but this will be his fourth straight week and sixth out of the last seven so surely must be starting to feel the pinch unless he's superhuman or the next David Ferrer !
Absolutely agree with you, Phil, re Kyle's current tournament schedule.
He's having many good compeitive matches and by the nature of clay also getting really good practice in a match environment at honing his groundstrokes, as his coach said was an aim.
I assume he will move onto hard courts later in the year, and grass for a few weeks, but thete is no huge rush.
Maybe there are easier points to be won elsewhere, but while at times points chasing makes sense ( arguably now with the older Ed Corrie in establishing a better rankings base before hopefully trying a higher level ), it is not so much the case with younger players.
Certainly I prefer his current schedule to going in at a higher level and having many weeks of just one match and one loss for occasional bigger rewards.
Matches like today's must be good for him. Seemed to indicate that Kyle still has a long way to go, but a good competitive match that he found a way to win.
Phil. "Buster" is playing this afternoon.....next up in fact.
I'm going for 5 games to his opponent tops.
If anyone wants to play along with a guess of how easily he wins, or for those radicals out there, that he loses........ probably about 5-10 mins before the match starts.
