RE: Week 8 - ITF ($25K) - Surprise, USA - Hard

Blob. If I ever get into trouble with the law, I definitely want you to defend me!

I suppose you could interpret things your way, but easily????

Look if she keeps winning, more power to her elbow, but surely being up in the early hours before morning matches can't be out of the recommended coaching manual.

Desynchronosis maybe?

That's a very good word. Having just looked it up, I now understand what you mean

Yes, maybe so!

Having looked it up too, I agree, excellent word!

Firstly, after over 2 weeks in the USA, I'd be amazed. Secondly, one of her fellow competitors responded later to her pre dawn tweeting, asking if she was jetlagged, and she said she wasn't.

Given that 5.00 in Arizona is midday here, it's quite plausible that she had slept and woken to follow the livescore if she hasn't fully adjusted to the Mountain Time Zone.

Steven. Blob. All possible explanations, I suspect mine (21st century dad!) is more plausible.

I have caught my 14 year old daughter on Facebook at 2 or 3 in the morning a few times, and also sneaking in episodes of "Pretty Little Lies" when she has school the next day and should know better! biggrin She's still great, and I bet lots of her mates do the same thing too! But she's not a professional athlete, where every aspect of her life is ordered and regulated!

Worrying this is.....Anna Smith's next match tomorrow is at 3am-5am local time tomorrow. Oh Oh!

Too right, korriban, your duaghter is not a professional athlete, and an ambitious one at that, who as Steven indicated undoubtably wants to win much more than we want her to. That's why I honestly believe Tara is not being anything like as unprofessional as you almost presume on patchy evidence without knowing anything else re such as her sleeping times.

I remembered a youtube interview frim last January around Aussie Open time, and have just found it again, it's from the Sutton 10K. "Tara Moore interview" should find you it.

Near the end...

Interviewer : Where would you like to be this time next year ?

Tara : I wouldn't like to be here, that's for sure, not because of the tennis tournament, but mainly because I hope to get my ranking up much higher and be in Australia at this time".

I remember being struck at the time how in a quiet way she really wanted that. Shortly after that she was injured, she never did get to Fed Cup last year ( she was meant to be travelling reserve ) which she also talked about looking forward to. She also never got to Australia this year either, no she was playing 10Ks again, mainly because of that largely ruined and unproductive first half of 2012.

Now making progress, close to being at a Grand Slam qualifying ranking, getting to the places she so wants to be, we are meant to believe that she foolhardedly leaves herself unprepared for matches.

Anyway, I'm out of this discussion. I've said before that I was uneasy with such spurious speculation about her preperations and nighttime habits ( I don't know, you don't know ). So while as Steven says, there could be one or two folk in Surprise ****ing themselves, it is possible they migjht not be amused. And I don't fully trust myself not to say something I might regret soon.

Maybe give it a rest ?

For me, the biggest indicator of Tara's commitment was the way she chose to leave the more juniors tour behind to go and grind it out on ITFs. I know the junior tour isnt all glitz and glamour, but Tara would have comfortably been able to play the junior slams and Grade A events that draw fairly high amounts of attention. Instead she elected to continue her development in the way she deemed best, a decision that I really respect and that I feel was very brave.

I dont doubt that she is working incredibly hard or she wouldnt have had the results she has had, and I do think at some point over the next season, if Tara can stay fit, things will click and she will make big strides up the ranking.

I sincerely promise to shut up now, whatever the result tomorrow, and whatever bizarre pre-dawn tweets wing their way from Surprise tomorrow.

I believe Tara has shown real desire, to reach her potential, by putting in a big offseason, probably injury free, because her form so far this year is well above last year.

Lisa
Khromacheva a pretty definite top 100 prospect though, so not really surprising.

Always hope of a result though.

Lisa's scoreline now confirmed.

R2: MOORE, Tara (GBR) 242 v COIN, Julie (FRA) 4 200 (CH 60 in 2009)

H2H is 0-1, a 3 & 4 win for Coin in Jersey way back in 2007 when Tara had just turned 15 and was ranked 915 to Coin's 201.

Re Tara, I actually think the jury is still out to a large extent on her year so far.

She has had a lot of wins, but only met 5 top 300 players. These matches have brought 3 very good looking wins against WRs 200, 253 and 183, and 2 very decisive losses to WRs 275 and 237.

Of course it is good that she has at last had a decent, untroubled start to the year. But I would suggest that it is not yet more impressive than she has latterly shown in the last 2 years. And not that hugely productive either for ranking points, not having gone past the QFs above 10K level. Her four ranking scores so far are about the average of a WR 250 player.

Yes, I do see encouraging signs with how she has put decent players sway and I have suggested myself possible mittigating circumstances for the two defeats. But then there could be some unknown ones for one or two players she has beaten.

I'd just like to be seeing a bit more from Tara before being too sure about this being a breakthrough year. I really would like it to be.

Of course, with no points to defend until June, Tara will quite likely hit CH upon CH and hopefully reach the top 200 so arguing slightly with myself it could be a breakthrough in having a decent first half of the year and thus a 12 month period that allows her to thus push up her ranking.

My real arguement for now is that she has not shown a run of form yet this year that she has not at least matched during leach of the last two years.

But she could well in time...
