Yes, a surprise Surprise champion. But so well deserved !
My jury has delivered its verdict. Tara is indeed at a new level as Phil suggested earlier in the week.
By the way, I didn"t read briteny as getting carried away talking about points to be ranked "100 something" as I took that as 100 to 199, i.e. essentially to get into the top 200.
Quote from a post on Tennis Forum..................
"I was at the match today - I strung the players racquets this week.
Playing conditions were not ideal today. No rain, but VERY windy. Some shots bounced twice before they reached the baseline, on normal topspin groundstrokes. Tara managed playing in the wind a bit better. That, and her forehand was dialed in, which was an impressive shot for someone her size."

What a start to the year for Tara, so good to see her finally delivering on the huge reservoir of talent she has.
Will be interesting to see where she goes from here. Play WTA qualies like JoKo or continue to rack up the points in this level of competition. Also does she play the clay season or look for hard court alternatives The strength of the fields weren't stellar here so my guess is that she is still a little bit below JoKo's level but that she has still definitely closed the gap. Watch out though in June when Tara plays on the grass, comfortably her best surface and will be a very dangerous opponent even for the elite players.
