Worth comparing this $25K to the current one in Rancho Santa Fe. Tara, Sam, Lisa & Mel would all be MD & seeded here. In America none were seeded. Mel had to qualify, and Lisa got MD because of a rush of last minute withdrawals.

7 hours since Peter posted this and nobody has suggested that Nicola's FQR opponent might prove to be a dogged competitor? Standards are slipping! (or should that be 'rising' )
The main draw is out too - Emily will play a qualifier in R1.

At least her previous opponent didn't manage to pull a genie out of the bottle.
Storm & Nic team up gor the third time in 4 weeks. Having beaten one of the top two seeds in both previous events, but having run out of steam, this week they get an easier looking route. Perhaps they can get a more tangible reward this week.
As noted previously, one of Em's opponents seems like a game Lassie.
Lu is actually ranked (at WR 908 having dropped 131 places today) and was a top 200 player as recently as 2011 (a year in which she won a 25K and a 50K in China), that being the fourth year in a row she had finished in the top 250.
Funnily enough, Melanie South has played her twice in 25K Finals, beating her in China in 2006 then losing to her in Pune in 2008.
I tried for about 10 minutes to find Lu's ranking off the WTA's appaling system. With so many Lus and Lius and Jings and Jangs it's a nightmare. Sometimes it even comes back with pages and pages of names that don't even include a Jing or a Lu.
I've stopped trying with the WTA website and just put the names into google with tennis at the end.
Wikipedia does a fab job of producing the information! Although I'm not sure the current ranking of 300 is right especially since Steven has her at 908 per the WTA rankings.
