Great that she battled through again, but doesn't look much closer to being back to her best form. I suspect that she will have to really lift her game if she is to match her seeding here.
I don't feel we've learnt anything new about Hev's season in this match as it has followed the current pattern - decent results but several matches that on paper she should win comfortably, she is winning but via a massive struggle.
But, contrary to some opinion, Voskoboeva is a decent 40-60 rank player, much like the best our Hev has shown (so far), who had Sophomore season troubles in the Top 100.
This may also be the case for Heather, as it is for very many players. Linear progression, ever onwards, is very rare. We may have to suffer with her this year as she tries to find new aspects to her game to help her cement her position and eventually move on. That may mean a dip in form, and ranking.
But, one thing is for absolutely certain with Miss Watson: you'll get your money's worth. Every match, every set, every game, every point wrung from the very fibre of her being. Maximum effort, always. The John Lewis player - never knowingly under fought.
For this, at the very least, amongst other redoubtable qualities, I hope for her that her game gets to the place she perhaps would wish it - and all our nerves can rest a little less frayed.

Hev & Marina are due up in an hour or so in doubles, but to add to the 3½ hour match yesterday, Marina has just battled past Annika Beck in a whisper short of 3 hours. Perhaps, for once, they would be best advised to withdraw this time.

Am I missing something, or is it really true that Oudin & Hlavackova aren't going to play their R1 match until 2 days after the player the winner is due to meet in R2? (i.e. Hev) Probably helps the Brit in this case, but seems like bizarre scheduling to me.

I saw that too, and... It seems there was a withdrawal in the doubles as expected... Just, it wasn't Hev and Marina, but Pervak/Oudin who seem to have withdrawn, so our plucky duo now face Ashley Murdock/Mariya Slupska (USA/UKR) instead. Perhaps due in part to the scheduling Steven references above
