RE: Week 8 - WTA ($235K) - Memphis, USA - Hard

Quite a rollercoster in the first set!  Hev & Marina had their chances to take it, but eventually lost it in the tie-break by 6-7(4). cry

Very topsy turvy this ...

LLJ/JP serving first

*1-0
2-0* DF
2-1*
*2-2
*2-3 so that's a minibreak to Hev and Marina
3-3* given back
4-3* with interest
*5-3
*6-3 and 3 set points to t'others.
6-4*

First set to Lee-Waters and Pegula 7'6(4) ... off to bedski for me.

On the other hand I do like TBs, although sometimes less so when a Brit or Brits lose one.

A bit flat & disappointing, but not that surprising given the singles exertions; and both Americans are top 100 in doubles.

In fact Lee-Walters (former top 35 singles, in 1996) will set a new CH in doubles with this result, in her nineteenth year on tour.
Not bad going!

Hopefully Hev & Marina have saved themselves for singles; they could meet in the SF.

No point really "watching" until Hev's at least a set down, maybe set and a break! Looks like the now almost customary slow start.

0-5* may be a bit more than a slow start. Voegele winning 75% of points on her serve and 70% of points on the Watson serve. Gulp!

Blimey! A spanking there.

The reality is that Heather, by her own admission, is not playing at all well. She got lucky with a relatively easy draw, and had to tough out 2 hard-earned wins in 3 sets against lower ranked and off-form players.....in the way we have come to admire so much.

Today she was up against a player who REALLY IS playing good tennis (forget the rankings, wouldn't surprise me if she won this event) and in some ways this kind of result was definitely coming sooner or later. To pick up 70 ranking points on this bad form is a huge bonus.....

Perhaps it's her now expecting to win too much and losing a certain freedom. Perhaps the other players have figured her out, so she needs new weapons and gameplans. Perhaps she's just going through a bad patch, and it can be ironed out on the practice court. Perhaps sh*t happens (copyright Ratty). Anyway now the hard work begins........just like Laura, she needs to go away and figure out a new plan.

But if anyone can,.....

It looks like no streaming of Hev's game today - 2 singles games are getting streamed, but not hers.

Rarely have a bet on tennis but Hev at about even money to beat Voegele just seems too generous to me.
