RE: Week 8 - ATP 250 Series - Open 13 - Marseille (indoor hard)

Clinical win by Boping - that's the way to do it.

smile

That's a big blow!
It's very sad - especially since it looked as though we had yet another very good British doubles pair in the making!
At least it gives Colin Fleming chance to sort out his strategy for the next 6 weeks.
First up will be whether to play Dubai or Delray (where he and Jonny were DA's) - (Acapulco probably not an option.
Then 4 weeks covering I/Wells and Miami. Then Davis Cup week and it would seem Jonny wouldn't have time to train up in time for that.

At least GBR have a few other good doubles players to pick from!  Rankings on 18th Feb are:-

Marray 15, Fleming 26, Hutchins 32, Inglot 40, Skupski 56, Delgado 65 ?back?, J.Murray 86.

Mr Nielsen clearly has no sense of gratitude -- after getting his Wimbie WC and winning the Championship, doesn't he know he's not allowed to play against any GB pairings (unless with a GB player) for at least a year? (Or does he himself count as an honorary Brit at this point?)

Jesting aside, all the best to Mr Delgado for his medical work (and well done to him for continuing to play despite the injury) and to Mr Skupski and his wife as they prepare for the baby. Probably not the worst week for the two players to lose early! If family matters permit, though, it would be nice to see a Flemski reunion for the Davis Cup.

And all the best to Mr Marray for a speedy healing.

A real shame for Jonny, it was potentially such a feel good story - him nobly stepping in to the breach, keeping Ross' place warm until he recovers, and along the way going from strength to strength and shoring up the DC team...

All the best to our ailing doubles contingent, and hope that Colin, Dom, Ken & the Jamies can do the business whilst they're absent.

Jonny hasn't been ruled out yet, has he? Out for 4 weeks, DC is over 6 weeks away.

R1: Jerzy Janowicz & Fredrik Nielsen (POL/DEN) beat Jamie Delgado & Ken Skupski 7-5 7-5

Ken tweeted a couple of days ago that this was their last tournament playing together, so this ends their partnership. Ken off to have a baby and Jamie is going to sort a back injury out so with a big break for IW/Miami/Davis Cup after next week I don't think they will both be playing for a little while.

QF:  Nicolas Mahut & Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA/FRA) vs Jamie Murray & John Peers (AUS)

Mahut & ERV saw off the fourth seeds, Benneteau & Llodra, in three yesterday.  Sadly, I can see only one winner of that match! cry

Shame. Next time maybe they'll remember to jump that final hurdle too.

Reasonable signs of green shoots in this partnership though.

First set down the pan by 4-6. cry  There's still time for them to prove me wrong, though...

If only they'd managed to convert just one of the several match points they held...!
