Sam doesn't really have any huge blocks of points coming off for months and months. On the one hand that's a positive as it means losses like this won't hurt her ranking, but on the other hand the next section of the season is one where, with even just a few good runs, she could make really big leaps up the rankings.
Eep! Sam's doubles was an almost complete re-run of the singles! Murray/Wienerova (GBR/SVK) 481 lost to (WC) Chirico/Lumpkin (USA/USA) 6-2 6-7(6) [8-10]
Hopefully Arizona next week will be kinder to her than California was.
Tara's singles is 2nd up after 17:30 - but on the outside court with no live score (so far this week) Mel/Tara's doubles is 4th up on the main court.
ITF scoreboard is showing that Tara's match will have live scores. Could be an interesting match, the top players are quite closely ranked.
Today's excellent win, taking the last 4 games in both sets, should take Tara to the edge of a new career high (as things stand, her points on Monday week would be enough to equal her career high based on this week's ranking list)
QF: MOORE, Tara (GBR) WR 246 v BRENGLE, Madison (USA) 6 237 (CH 152 in 2011)
H2H: 0-2 - a straight sets loss in juniors in the US in 2007, when Tara was 14 and Brengle 17, then a 3-set loss in Nottingham in 2010.
Edit: Oops, the perils of taking a phone call in between writing and pressing send LOL

Mindful of what happened yesterday both in Sam's match, and also the way Pavlovic battled to victory after losing the first set yesterday, we'll leave it at that.
Go on Tara!
