Hard to say well done to anyone when they are playing a fellow Brit but with Ed's current form it is nice to see this ranking rise. Long may it continue....
Very good to see Ed keeping backing up previous results ( if not so good for Josh ). I think it is pretty clear that he is playing at a new higher level.
No disrespect to Josh Goodall, but as one of the top seeds in these four tournaments and not making a final, indicates 10K are his limit and he won't progress about WR 250.
Isn't that JG's 5th lost tie-break in a row? Bad luck in a way (or is it?) His game is based a lot on holding his service games, and that's not enough in a tie-break, where you are [generally] rewarded for taking chances.
Unfortunately that's 16 points in 4 tournaments which is a long way from the 360-370 he needs to break top 150 by the Summer.
Even if he is gifted Queen's and Wimbledon WCs and wins a round or two, without making an impression on Challengers/ATP qualies, the numbers aren't going to work......and if he doesn't enter any of these tournaments in the first place, we'll never know......
Josh has said thats he's trying a few changes, maybe they need more time to bed in, maybe they weren't a good idea? If he kept doing what he'd done before he'd have had similar results so full credit to the guy for trying these things out.
A win in tomorrow's final will take Ed into the top 400 on Monday week ( a loss would maybe just leave him on the cusp of the top 400 ) and level on points with Josh Milton ( the GB no 8 for what that's worth ).
He started off these last 4 weeks at WR 529 and GB no 15.
Certainly should now help get futures seedings and bring closer him hopefully competing more regularly in Challengers.
I think for a progress and ranking point of view Josh and Ed final would have been better. Eds rankig on the up and Josh maintains a circa 250 ranking. No disrespect to Dan but I can't really see him going much higher than 300 so from an overall Brit view this is disappointing.
It looks as though we are going to have to rely on Jamie and James in the challengers over the next couple of Months to do well. A few good touraments could see them both inside 200 although Jamie does have a lot of points to defend in the spring.
