RE: Week 6 - ITF ($25K) - Launceston, Australia Hard

for the 2nd week running the pair of Nic & Storm pull off a stunning result against a top seeded pair.
If Em & Lykina win later, the two pairs will meet in the SF and we'll be sure of a Brit in the final.

QF: Storm SANDERS (AUS)/Nicola SLATER (GBR) WR1020 defeated Erika SEMA (JPN)/Sheng-Nan SUN (CHN) [1] WR300 6-3 2-6 [10-8]

Em's singles is still on the official OOP but its not been followed today for some reason, and shes not but not on the live score schedule.

as shes in dubs action now must presume she will only play her singles R1 tomorrow for some unknown reason

in dubs Em & Ksenia win in straights despite winning 5 less points than their young opponents
QF: Ksenia LYKINA (RUS)/Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) [3] defeated Anett KONTAVEIT (EST)/Carol ZHAO (CAN) (Q) 6-4 7-5

so, we're guaranteed a finallist
SF: Ksenia LYKINA (RUS)/Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) [3] vs. Storm SANDERS (AUS)/Nicola SLATER (GBR)

EWS singles should be under way now, but I can't find the score in ITF live scores either yesterday or today, or on any other score feeds. :-/

SF: Ksenia LYKINA (RUS)/Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) [3] defeated Storm SANDERS (AUS)/Nicola SLATER (GBR) 0-6 6-2 [10-4] smile cry
F: Ksenia LYKINA (RUS)/Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) [3] WR495 vs. KIICK, Alexandra (USA)/ROUTLIFFE, Erin (CAN) (Q) WR1302

Bah! Still she seems to be slowly heading back the right direction.

A step in the right direction would be a quarter final plus. If she fails to get to quarters in Mildura on grass where she is already main entry it's a failed trip no matter how people on here put gloss on things. Ranking is heading south towards 500

Well, from where Emily has been for most of the last year, I would say that her performances this week look like a small step in the right direction. I think we can say that without her beating the WR 222 to follow up beating the WR 278.

Now, yes, it would be again encouraging to see a good performance level in Mildura.

EWS/Lykina secure the first set in the doubles final 7-5
served for it at 5-4, but broken to 30
broke right back
served for it again and closed it out - 7 breaks in 12 games

Emily & Ksenia

7-5 6-3

Emilys 1st title since Bath 10k in March last year where she won the doubles with Sam Murray - her first overseas since Sept 2010 when she won doubles with Naomi Broady in Madrid.

Congratulations to her.
