The bookies make the semi just over 60:40 to James ... and to be fair, if you'd offered James a Challenger semi against a junior slam champion ranked 843 in the world and playing in his first Challenger main draw, I think he'd have taken it!

Great win, AO Junior Champion Kyrgios in the semis. Would be interesting to see the odds for this one given the Aussie's undoubted potential yet Wardy's relatively smooth run so far and comfortable victory over the top seed.
Excellent As you may have gathered from my post yesterday, I thought James had a good chance in this one but the scoreline is particularly impressive.
QF: James Ward WR 263 beat (1) Yuichi Sugita (JPN) WR 140 (CH 116 last Nov) by 2 & 3
SF: James Ward WR 263 v (WC) Nick Kyrgios WR 843 (but current junior no. 1 after winning the AO boys' title)
Unless I've missed something, this will be Wardy's first Challenger singles SF since he won the Vancouver title 18 months ago in Aug 2011 (and his best points haul since then apart from Wimbledon) and if he beats Kyrgios, he will draw level on points with Jamie Baker.

And I certainly took it as a positive statement. I just thought it good to contemplate James winning some Challengers this year given how long we'd gone without one.
There honestly wasn't any other message meant and I'm sorry if my wording made you think otherwise.
I will often add context and stats just because it interests me, and I could have been replying similarly to anyone.
That's a nice way for James to celebrate his 26th birthday
SF: James Ward WR 263 beat (WC) Nick Kyrgios (AUS) WR 843 by 6-4 5-7 6-1
James is now level on points with Jamie Baker.
FINAL: James Ward WR 263 v (SE) Matthew Barton (AUS) WR 345 (= CH)
H2H 1-0 - James beat Barton 3-6 6-3 7-6(3) in the semis of Kaohsiung Fut. last April. Barton is at a career high after reaching the Burnie semis last week, where he lost to our old friend Stéphane Robert.
James is the first Brit to make a Challenger singles Final since he himself won Vancouver 18 months ago. He has now made 4 of GB's last 5 Challenger singles Finals and is only the third Brit this century to make more than three Challenger singles Finals, after Boggo, who has made 13 (W 9 L 4), and Big Arv, who made 7 (W 2 L 5) or 5 (W 2 L 3 ) if you count the 21st century as not starting until 2001.
