RE: Week 6 - ITF ($25K) Grenoble, France - Hard, Indoor

Yes! I know Brianti hasn't been in great form recently either, but to get through a match that close against a former top 60 player is a great effort from Naomi

L32: Naomi Broady WR 349 beat (3) Alberta Brianti (ITA) WR 162 (CH 55 in 2011) by 7-6(2) 6-4
L32: (Q) Jade Windley WR 451 lost to (4) Maryna Zanevska (UKR) WR 193 by 2 & 0

L16: Naomi Broady WR 349 v Renata Voracova (CZE) WR 257 (CH 74 in 2010)

Really good win for Naomi, especially as she has been struggling for results recently.
In a way this next match is even more important - a good win is nice but a run in a tournament would really give her the confidence boost she needs.

Naomi won 7-6(2) 6-4 and improves her record to W14 L2 in Grenoble.

Good to see. Now hopefully Naomi can build on this, both here where she appears pretty comfortable, and thereafter.

Her world ranking has been heading south for too long ( and another net 20 points come off on Monday ) for a girl of her abilities. Time to chart a new course !

Yes the surface is very fast, Naomi has some ridiculous serving stats here in the past.

Excellent!

If you look at the Ace/DF gap between both players, Naomi had a positive margin of +15 points i.e. 15 "net" free points where no rally took place, 10 from her own good serving, 5 from her opponents bad serving. At the end of the match, her points tally was 12 ahead of her opponent! So this really did make all the difference.

Philip - is the surface in Grenoble super fast? I presume this is why a fast and flat server like Naomi has done so well here, and less well elsewhere.

I want to see her win more regularly WITHOUT her serve being on fire, relying more on great groundstrokes and consistency, to complement her power...........but we'll take this result anyhow!

As Wolf said very fast, perfect conditions for Naomi.

Jade: "Lost singles today, pretty sure there's a nasty bug goin round here haven't eaten prop in 24 hours eurgh :( a few other players look bad too!"

That could explain why Jade didn't win a few more games. Let's hope Naomi doesn't catch it!

Naomi had 2 BP to break again
Voracova DF on her first MP
then Broady saved 2 other MP
2 more Broady BPs
MP #4 also saved
MP #5 decisive though

GSM Voracova 6-1 6-2
