I don't think at all that folk here generally duscount the role of chance in determining tennis matches and tennis success in general, just because they point to or soeculate about more substantial factors.
Marcus is doing an Ashley from end of last year. By that I mean having a couple of good weeks. I wouldn't expect either of them to break the top 350. I know some think Marcus will push on but I can't see past Josh Bloomers and Pauffley for the majority of the British Futures. The odd title being shared out. Also have a feeling most of the rankings will be the same at year end with Kyle Oli and Luke being the climbers.
Who knows. It's certainly going to be tough for any of the players who mainly play GB Futures to really push on this year without getting some success outside the UK, since the GB Futures are just going to see a different share-out of a similar number of points to last year, with possibly less of them going to Brits this year, given that home players picked up a higher than usual proportion of the GB Futures points last year and there is always the possibility of another Stéphane Robert (or, indeed, even a Christian Harrison) coming over and hoovering up a lot of the big points on offer.
What would be good would be if players like Josh who did really well in last year's GB Futures were able to start having some success at Challenger level, thus leaving more of the big GB Futures points to be grabbed by some of the younger Brits coming up. Not easy though - I'm well aware of the financial issues players like Josh face. It also can't help that when he has played Challengers recently, he's had little or no success, but I think that may well be because he doesn't get enough chances to play at that level and his results would improve if he played Challengers more often - after all, he has considerable success in slam qualies a few years ago so it's not as if he isn't capable. A bit of a vicious cycle, not helped by the seemingly ever-decreasing number of UK Challengers, and European Challengers in general.

A typical British comment saying they would not win. They have been through the American system which instills positive thinking, so you guys need to start thinking positive and get your bets on for these two guys to win a grand slam. !!
I don't disagree that Brits should at times be more positive and I do find some comments wearingly defeatist / negative, I think that I will pass on that bet, Mr Skupski !
Very well done to Ken and Neal though. Are they going to be a regular partnership ? Is Neal now finished at college ? All the best to them.
I only meant that I thought it great that two brothers were playing together, Ken top 100, Neal just starting out again from the US college system. A cool thing to see yet I thought Thornley/Rice may prove too much for them. They didn't, the Skupski's won, thats great..........why was I seen as being negative????????
