I don't buy the "wall" argument Bob. Kyle may be only 18 but he looks strong as an ox, and has a long history of 3 set wins.
Another idea. What if Liam, Luke and James were all awarded WCs for next weeks GB futures.........plus Kyle if he made it back in time...........would only have to play on Tuesday......would be a but of a coincidence.......but I'm not sure things can/should work like this
Maybe Sparky - do you have any other ideas? Unless he was injured (there was no MTO by all accounts) and with the score at 6-2 5-2 following yesterday's easy straight set victory, I'm looking for a possible explanation for the extraordinary and immediate change in fortunes. This isn't Wimbledon - a win here earns just 1 extra ranking point, and there may be a bigger picture.

I am not saying that I am right, but with 16 matches in 20 days, that is a lot of tennis. You only need to lose half a yard of pace through fatigue and the other guy can sense an opportunity. Andy Murray was awesome at 18, until he suddenly cramped up towards the end of a match.
Either way, I have to say I prefer my theory to your "throwing a match" theory which is a bit far-fetched to say the least. I know we both love a good conspiracy theory but I don't think my suspicions could be stretched that far.
Don't be ridiculous Korriban, you don't tank a match against somebody around the 300 mark. I would agree with the fatigue arguement, or maybe matey just raised his game Dan Evans style. Or Kyle broken when servingfor the match lost concentration. The idea that he would have tanked that is just absolutly bonkers and idiotic.
Must say I'm with Sparky here. Welcome, by the way.
A win in R2 may only have brought 1 more ranking point, but would have put Kyle in a position to contest the totals of 6, 10 and 18 points available for winning QF, SF and final respectively.
To consider opting out of this chance having played so many matches over 3 weeks for a total of just 2 ranking points would indeed be a joke or more likely only caused by some tragedy !
Futures players fight for the chance to earn the bigger points from reaching at least fhe SF on. To willingly forego on these, especially after these 3 weeks, would be quite ludicrous.
He is not down for any other event next week is he ?
All a bit of a mystery and a bit worrying.
I don't think he should have been hitting any "wall" either.

On a technical note James Marsalek cannot be granted a WC for next weeks GB futures because he was on the original acceptance list for the US futures being played that week.
On the wider point. Kyle lost a match from 5-2 up in the second, it happens.
