Another pesky Podzus twin despatches a Brit, while Luke has to face the music (sorry!), meaning that the section with two Brits as its seeds ends up with no Brit even reaching the FQR.

I believe Liam has already flown home without reaching a MD in 3 attempts, same now with Luke and James, although James can have another go next week where he qualifies easily for the MD (which surely with his ranking, he and Kyle would expect to be doing every week in almost any $10k tournament they might have chosen in Europe).
Well done Kyle, with win number 11 out of 13 matches. If he wins tomorrow and again on (probably) Wednesday, he hits 13 wins out of 15 and gains another whole ranking point, doubling his tally from the 3-4 week trip to 2! I think this is bonkers, but there it is.
All I can say is that Kyle must be playing considerably above his ranking, even if his tournament choices mean he isn't being rewarded for this. His only 2 defeats were against the eventual winner of tournament 1, ranked in the 200s, but underranked due to over 2 months out in 2012......and to a player in the 900s in tournament 2 (but reduced due to 9 months out in 2012), having been ranked between 180 and 300 for the previous 5 years. Impressive!
Draw for 1st round of MD now out. Qualifier slots offer the following matches :
Q v Gregory Ouellette (USA) WR 387 Q v (WC) Lukas Concilia (AUT) WR 1119 Q v (7) M Michalika (CZE) WR 331 Q v (3) Florian Reynet (FRA) WR 284 Q v Thales Turini (BRA) WR 444 Q v Ricardo Rodriguez (VEN) WR 384 Q v Chase Buchanan (USA) WR 368 Q v (4) Robby Ginepri (USA) 286 Q v Filip Peliwo WR (CAN) 531
The observant amongst you will notice that 9 slots are available as sadly Boggo is not in the draw - as those of you who deciphered the "Count's" post above will have already realised.
Hope I am not jumping the gun by posting this - Come on Kyle.

Oh, sigh. I do wish that there were more support available for Mr Bogdanovic. I know the history, but he remains the most talented player outside of Mr Murray before the teenagers. And he clearly loves the game.
'Twill make it all the more sweet for him, I suppose (in hope) when he finally hits his stride and gets back into the top 200 or even (dare we hope?) the top 100. Haec olim meminisse juvabit* and all that.

I feel really sorry for Boggo - any time he has been showing some good form for the past couple of years, he seems to have picked up an injury. The same could of course be said of the one Brit in the ATP singles rankings who is older than Alex, i.e. Bloomers, who also still seems to play well when he is relatively healthy.
I wonder if there are more effective injury prevention techniques he could use. No doubt it isn't as simple as that, but you'd think Fed's injury prevention coach (whoever that might be), for example, could have some good advice for all of the 'older' players trying to maximise the length of their careers.

Hopefully Alex will be fit for Dallas, which is the type of event where a good run can really reward you, i think it was sensible to skip this one if he wasn't sure if he was 100%. Apparently he felt his hamstring go when running for a drop shot, so it does sound like the type of thing that could be preventable, especially 1st tournament back, muscles tight after a few matches etc.
He has had some annyoing injuries over the years, but the main one has been his back which has hampered him for quite a while, going as far back to the time when he was at his peak ranking just after his Roddick match.
As Steven says i am sure there are perhaps things that can be done, but I'm sure there are things that also don't help Rog and his lot live in a different world to the rest, he'll probably have his own personal physio travelling with him, 1st class etc. but of course that is only naturally the rewards that comes with being the best.

Oh yes, I know - it must be a completely different world in terms of keeping yourself in the best possible shape to play when money is virtually no object.
