The Entry Rankings for 9 Jan show that Andy has risen two places to a CAREER HIGH 62!

Onwards and Upwards!

How do you know, even if the official ATP site does not update rankings till 2mrw.

I reckon the people who update the rankings are located in somewhere like in Europe so they are a couple of hrs before us and have entered the new week

The new rankings are available already today! 4 in the afternoon!

Andy stays at 62; his defeat of Kenneth Carlsen means Andy has jumped ahead of him, but unfortunately for Andy Nico Massu's good run this week means he has jumped ahead of both of them.

It was available last night (sat) as well.  I think its because all the finals finished on the saturday so players could have a day of rest before Aus Open.

I will do if people want it. At the moment they are the same, ATP is only showing the one list, but that will presumably change soon.

Andy is currently 39th in the race, having slipped from 36th last week.

Yes, but for some weird reason that is shown at the top as the 2005 race I'm sure the points are for 2006.

I think I will wait until they after the AO when presumably they will have sorted themselves out.

No new rankings until after the AO.

Re the race points - this has been discussed on MTF. The ATP has (at last, IMO!) realised the race points are absolutely pointless until much later in the year. This is an official response to the question from the ATP:-

"We did not discontinue the race but we are focusing primarily on the INDESIT ATP Ranking, the 52-week ranking as the most important ranking in tennis (for singles play) and drop "Entry" from the name; the "launch" of the Race will be at the U.S. Open and it will help promote the Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai. It will more clearly define the Race: a season-long chase to Shanghai and an occasionally useful barometer on a player's success during the year. The Race points could still be found under the 'rankings' heading."

Good. That saves me a job. I have never liked the Race points being shown as the main system.

Good decision by the ATP, I always found the ATP Race very confusing - I could never see the point of it.

The only good thing about the Race was that it enabled Henman to get to world no 2, by virtue of winning ATP Adelaide in the first week of the season. Amazingly, that year, I think he regained the no 2 spot soon after the Aussie Open and maintained it until Miami in April.

I was always hopeful that Henman would win ATP Doha, and get to world no 1 - Doha has more points available than Adelaide. However, alas he never did.
