Goodall won the battle of the Joshes 3 & 2, so he plays Quigley in the SFs

Not bad from Mr Bloomfield; (C) Harrison clearly has the potential to be a very good player. Two interesting SFs coming up.

Somebody asked Janowicz after the match with Devvarman what he had been doing "this time last year." He noted that he'd been playing in the GB 10,000 Futures (it was F2 -- Sheffield). Lost to David Rice in the quarters. Inglot was in the doubles, too.

Be interesting to see whether any of this year's players will be playing somewhere quite different next year. Some good candidates for the next step up.

Incorrect. It will be depressing. Because it will be Harrison, Quigley and possibly Djokovic but none of the Brits

Another interesting day at the tennis.

They say success in tennis is mental and the match between Evo and Willis was pure mental, as we say in Glasgow. Marcus certainly does look up for it at the moment. His early potential has not really been realised so it is good to see. He is very pepped up and expansive on court, constantly giving something of a comentary of how good or bad the last shot was.

Dan on the other hand needs to focus more and for a set he managed it. In the second, with a set under his belt, he slackened off and became drawn into Marcus's rabbitings. He lost concentration and momentum. Still it was level pegging until the tie break. Point after point went to Willis until Dan was 0-6 down. Now what would you do it that situation? Well Dan lauched a cheeky unexpected pop into court which could have fooled Marcus. But he managed to be alert enough to send it away for the set. After that it was more of the same. Marcus kept muttering, Dan kept reacting and a few games and a warning for audible obscenity later saw Dan a break down. He tried very hard to break back but couldn't do it, and now has an even worse head to head record against Marcus! A lot of the reasons for defeat were mental, as I say a mental match indeed!

Strangely enough that match did not win the prize for the match with most banter. The Goodall v Milton match was played with both players regularly chatting to each other between points. You don't see much of that at Wimbledon! A rather slim line Yoshi too good for Josh on the day. He too seems to have been doing some more pre-season work before a make or break season for him, as I think he has said.

Ed Corrie just edged out by Quigley to make it one up for the U.S. of A. I felt confident that Richard Bloomfild would level the score. He looked good for a set or so, but got increasingly ground down by the rallying skills of the American. Harrison looks very good. Good serve and seems to get most things back. Staying with him rally after rally is a daunting prospect. I suspect Marcus will have go for early winners in tomorrow's semi.

Well ... depends how you look at it. If you've actually been able to watch this year's tournament (and thank you, Clayfan, for the report!) it will be fun to have seen whoever succeeds.  And you never know ... while I would agree that Harrison is the favourite to be at the Australian Open next year,  it wouldn't seem beyond the realm of possibility for a few of the GB players at least to be in AO qualies.

I couldn't disagree more, I went to watch today after some interesting results this week and was impressed with the level of the British Lads. Evans got off to a flyer, Willis was missing far too much. Willis was being too negative with himself but knuckled down and fought back well to level. His serve under pressure in the 3rd was spot on and to break he played a very high level game. Closed out the match well with growing pressure from Evans. There was a running commentary a little but it was all good natured. Evans didn't change his attitude through the match and was much more focused than yesterday, could have been a bit more aggresive but he struggled with Willis' lefty serve.

Goodall Milton match was also high quality with Goodall producing some big shots which milton had no answer to. 63 62 in the end but could have been easier. The chatting was harmless and what I got from the balcony is that everyone is fairly good friends with each other and it was about line calls, fairly relevant to tennis ;)

Corrie produced some good tennis but didn't quite have it in the end, was only points away but Quigley produced big tennis on the big points. overall very impressed with what our country has got to offer. Left at 4-2 in the Bloomfield match but Harrison looked the more steady.

Recalling their junior careers (and checking the records to supplement recollection) I don't think there was a huge amount between Mr Willis and Mr Evans. Evans' career high was 10; Willis' was 15. Evans won one Grade 1 (a South American tournament); Willis did too (the Canadian Open ... arguably one of the hardest, as so many use it as preparation for the USO, though his draw wasn't the hardest ever). Evans reached two GS QFs in 2007/08; Willis began to rise in level later in 2007 ... in 2008, his best year, he didn't get as far as the QF but lost to Dimitrov in the French and Tomic at Wimbledon. So both clearly had talent. Hard to compare after that, as it doesn't seem as if Mr Willis really took his adult career seriously before this year. But if Mr Willis is prepared to work hard, one can see where he and Mr Evans should be on a par ... and perhaps spur each other to higher things?
