BTW how do lucky loser spots work? I thought the top 4 ranked FQR losers are basically put in a pot, and the LLs are chosen randomly from them. The 2 top rankedFQR losers got through like this, but the third is ranked in the 900s. have i got this wrong - he is well below Kyle and James ranking.

At slams, the top 4 thing is correct (subject to modification if more than two LL places come available before qualifying finishes, I seem to remember - haven't re-checked) but at other ITF events (i.e. Futures and women's 10-100Ks), all of the ranked FQR losers go in the initial pot (ITF rule D.8.d.i) - in fact, the USTA Pro Circuit events publish the list online and as you can see at http://assets.usta.com/assets/1/15/alternates_lucky_losers224.PDF, James is the neext player due in and Kyle in the 3rd in line, i.e. they were originally 4th and 6th in line overall.
A bit more on Liam - he tweeted today: "Retired last week at 5-4 in the first due to injury. Playing the wildcard playoffs for the F3 futures. Won my first match in that 2 and 2"
