RE: Week 3 - Australian Open (women's)

Well done Laura. I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to keep my eyes open for Jamies match, so hopefully I can wake up to 4/4 for the brits

Laura looked good today - this win should take her to a new career high around WR 46 (give or take a couple of places - still very imprecise this early in the fortnight, obviously)

Another interesting tie in R2: Donna Vekic vs. Mrs McIllroy (are they still allowed to photographed together, given recent sponsorship news?)

Decent start from Laura, excellent 1st set, OK second.

Will need to play the whole match against Kvitova like she played the first to give herself a good chance.

Could be a night match, but would prefer a daytime one with temps rocketing.

Kvitova was OK today but is beatable.

Laura's serving today I thought was exceptional, rare she serves that high number of aces. Movement OK, but in general her play is a notch below what she was capable of in 2012. Still though she made such a big jump in 2012 that consolidation at a slightly lower level, but still above midseason form from 2012 is probably still progress in a weird sort of way. Loads to get excited about though overall.

Guardian article on Laura's win with a decent length inteview at the end: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2013/jan/15/laura-robson-kvitova-australian-open

Explains why Laura's ankle has been taped up in matches this year - she twisted it falling over a hurdle in training. Thankfully she didn't fall at the first hurdle today...

Heather singles is 2nd on after midnight - un-streamed on court 8

Laura doubles is 4th on after midnight - un-streamed on court 22

I don't want to get people's hopes up but I think court 8 is a televised court.

The 3 main courts plus 2,3, 6 and 8 are all streamed so yes we should have live coverage at approx. 3a.m in the morning, and as Steven regularly points out sleep is for the weak.

It's a bit like what happened to Hev at the start of last year, but probably not as bad, still though maybe her lateral movement is being hindered a tad.

According to this tweet, Laura's playing mixed with Dom:

"Ben Rothenberg @BenRothenberg

Not too many splashy teams on the mixed sign-in sheet, but a few intrigues. Goerges-Nestor, Huber-Mirnyi, and Brits Robson-Inglot."

Yeah that's great. They did well at Wimbledon but can't remember whether it was the semi's they reached?

That she has entered the mixed also indicates that her ankle is not perceived as too vulnerable.
