Piers Newbery: Pretty gruelling stuff on court 5 as Keothavong trails 1-4, then serves for it at 5-4, Min eventually takes it 7-5. AK: "That's tragic!"

I don't know much about her opponent Yi Miao Zhou, but I do remember Laura playing her in Osaka back in October. Laura won but the scoreline was closer than expected. I think it's a match Johanna is well capable of winning though.

She made the quarter finals of the WTA Shenzhen event last week, which is 1 round better than Laura managed. Albeit from a LL placing.

oh no! not surprising though

not sure where anne goes from here.
almost a year now without any quality tennis seems to be playing at about 300-350 level
how long do you keep waiting for some magic to happen and turn things around?

Barry Flatman reports: "It transpires Annie K needed 4 injections in her feet before the match and struggled to move. Ouch"

hmm yes but not right before???

On 6th jan she tweeted this...

Anne Keothavong @annekeothavong
"I have a major phobia of needles but managed a total of four injections today. So proud of myself + still laughing about how pathetic I was."

maybe she needed another set on match day? or Flatman was talking about the same ones from a few days back
i'd thought she meant it was innoculation type shots and that it was strange cos shed already travelled

anyone know what its about?

Brilliant stuff from Jo, by all accounts a high quality match, she does seem to raise her level for the slams which is very important because thats were the big ranking points are.
Zhou in the next round is a definite banana skin, factoring in a bit of a letdown from today's big win and the Chinese's girls current form makes this match maybe 55/45 in JoKo's favour.

As for Annie I think some of you guys are a bit harsh, her level is probably of a top 200 player today carrying an injury and probably of a top 150 player when fit which still makes her clearly our number 4 best player. Disappointing obviously but she did well to qualify in her first tournament this year and was struggling this week with an injury against a young improving player not ranked far below her.
