So if we are going to predict the top 10 in order, can we confirm who could be playing full time after finishing uni. Is Slabba retired or is he planning to continue playing? Anyone know?
Might also be interesting to keep an eye on the 17/18yr old juniors who will no longer be funded unless exceptional and will be forced to play on the main tour.
Yes, paulisi, would be good to know any relevant points like that, especially if it is extended to the top 20.
And re my earlier suggestion of top 20, I'm not quite so sure now given that the initial part of selecting who will be in the top 20 rather than top 10 will clearly be much easier for the top group of players, though more challenging with regards to those likely to be below the top dozen or so.
Anyway, was just throwing it out there to be used, adapted or not used at all...
Belatedly, time to get this years preditctions contest underway. The rules are almost the same as last year, with only the dates changing:
1. Predict the ranking of the current top 10 GB men's & women's players, and the ranking of 10 of our promising teenagers.
2. Predictions have to be made before Qualifying begins for the Australian Open (9th Jan).
3. The competition ends on the Monday the points from the last GB event of the year are added (which may differ for men & women).
4. The points scored for each prediction will be the difference between the higher of their actual rank and your prediction and the lower of the two, as a percentage of the lower. e.g.
- You predict a rank of 150 and the actual rank is 200, you score (200-150)/200 = 25%
- You predict a rank of 200 and the actual rank is 150, you still score 25%, not 33%
Using percentages means that the larger fluctuations in the ranks of the lower ranked players won't dominate the smaller movements of the better ranked players, so we can include Andy in the game.
5. The winner will be the entrant the lowest average percentage error.
6. If any player fails to play in 18 tournaments(men) or 16 tournaments (women) - e.g. due to injury, retirement or age eligibility rules - the ranking points they score in the tournaments they do play will be increased pro-rata and they will be assigned a ranking equal to the highest ranked player in the ATP rankings with that number of points or fewer. If player finishes unranked, they will be assigned the same ranking as the lowest ranked player. AER shouldn't limit any of the youngsters to fewer than 16 tournaments, but they may well choose to play fewer.
7. Anyone who wants to dispute my selection of teen players had best find their towel (it mostly follows Team Aegon membership)
