I was reading an old article on the lack of british tennis success. In it they mentioned a kid called Jamie Caprice who's meant to be good. The reason i ask is that it says he goes to a school in tower hamlets and i live there but have never heard of him. Have you lot?
this was the piece which grabbed my attention:
"Watch out for Jamie Caprice, a 12-year-old from a school in Tower Hamlets, who is an example of the sort of talent that remains largely untapped in our inner cities. "
whereabouts in tower hamlets are you mk? i used to rent a room from a corrupt methodist minister at the 'east end mission' on commercial road. its just down the road from shadwell station. He had a dog the size of a horse and he ran a brothel from the basement (the vicar, not the dog). used to go to the ship all the time and the swan before it became a goddam yuppie gay bar.
sorry made the same mistake Again! I edited ur post instead of quoting it

what i meant to write:
are u for real?
I know about the area you are talking bout. but i live further up commercial road. Nearer to the blackwall tunnel. U tlking bout the white swan btw?
the white swan, yes thats it. I lived there around the time of the printers strikes in wapping, and we used to go there after closing time to hang out at the picket line drinking tea and snorting coke. oh man, a few jars in the prospect by the river and then on to the picket line to read the morning papers as the sun came up. that must have been, what, 1986 or something? time flies eh. i'll be damned.
WITH WIMBLEDON just weeks away, the Voice of Sport has unearthed two future jewels for Britain’s wobbly tennis crown.
When you are just 10-years-old and told that you will have what it takes to win Wimbledon in just six years by the only man ever to accomplish such a feat, you listen.
That was the verdict that three-time Wimbledon winner Boris Becker reached when he saw Jamie Caprice play for the first time.
In fact, Becker was so impressed with the level of performance displayed by Caprice he immediately gave the youngster tennis gear – including rackets, bags and other bits of paraphernalia – from his then newly established company Volkl.
It would seem that the special gift that Caprice possesses has also rubbed off on his younger brother, Kieron, who is just seven.
The two brothers practice their tennis at the Clissold Park Junior Tennis Club in Hackney and the Westway Tennis Club in Ladbroke Grove.
The story of the Caprice brothers isn’t too dissimilar to that of the Williams sisters.
Your claim to fame (even better if you met him personally)!
lol. Yeh my claim to fame at the moment would probably be that my secondary school is one of the first (i think it was THE first) schools in which the olympics campaign was started by seb Coe. I had to give a speech that day and he came of as a rather 'greasy Conservative'.
Thanks sally for the info on the Sunday Telegraph Center Parcs Junior Grand Prix. Caprice took part in the tournament and entered in the Boys 14 & under cattegory for Connaught. Here's the table they have:
