Strange back to back $10K's in ZAF. This week, Laura is ranked ninth in the main draw, next week she'll barely scrape into the qualifying draw.
#1 seed in both events, is WR177, Chanel Simmonds. #8 seed this week is WR900, Erin Clark.
Erin Clark is who Laura might play in R2 if she gets through R1. Th other possibilitiy is a match against, erm, Kuznetsova - thankfully, Varvara, not Svetlana.
R1: DEIGMAN, Laura (GBR) 1032 v [Q] OR, Lee (ISR) UNR (CH 1109 11/2010)
Great chance for Laura to get another point, and with it a probable new CH; against a 17 yo Q, who's 0-4 in ITF MD in 2012. Laura's singles is last up on her court, not before 10:30 UK time. [Edit: corrected time]
WD QF: R1: DEIGMAN/PAUL(GBR/IND) vs. CASCINO/THOLEY (FRA/FRA)

Disappointing result. Could hardly ever find a better chance for a point than than to play a winless Q in R1 of just about the weakest $10K of the year.
At the end of October Lee Or played in a 25K qualifying tournament and beat players ranked 771 and 601 so she may be better than the UNR would suggest.

Also, she was ranked (from three R1 wins in 10Ks) two years ago when she was 15 and was a top 200 junior earlier this year, though that probably doesn't mean that much. Still a decent draw though and a pity Laura couldn't pick up another ranking point.
