Doping Again !

Interesting read:
As of 2022, the TADP (Tennis Anti-Doping Programme) is now no longer under the direct supervision of the ITF. Instead, responsibility for the TADP has been relegated to the ITIA (International Tennis Integrity Agency). The ITIA has been established as an allegedly independent governing body whose funding is provided by its seven stakeholders, which are the ITF, ATP, WTA, and the four Grand Slams, each providing funding equal to one seventh of the total budget.

Aside from two exceptions, the TADP seems to prefer not testing even their top players at at least half of their events. This of course applies to Carlos Alcaraz as well, who has been tested at 6 out of 18 events (33%) in 2021, and not once out-of-competition.

This was 4 years ago. I'm sure most on here have read it but even more relevant now eu.usatoday.com/story/sports/tennis/wimb/2018/07/01/roger-federer-explains-inconsistency-drug-testing/749924002/

A decision  has been in the case of Valeria Bhunu, Zimbabwe's only ranked female singles tennis  player. She   has been banned until 28th December 2024 . This relates to failing a drugs test in South Africa on 29th September  2021. The  drug in question was the same as the one Dayana Yastremska tested  positive for  back at the end of 2020.

WOW! Another huge name caught! How about some of the obvious cheats at the top of the men's game. Ah..but that would be bad publicity wouldn't it?

This is a play on names but the appropriately named Miss Demina of Russia was given an ADRV ban of 3 years  in April 2022. Looking at the names of players who are either suspended or banned for doping violations with the odd exception most are names one has never heard of. Most don't seem likely to get anywhere near the top 100.

Agreed and I think Telstars point was just that, there are bigger fish he/she feels are doping but not getting caught. Im open minded on that but other than rumours that generally circle, Id be interested to here Telstars thoughts on who and what the evidence might be?

not to catch them out, Im genuinely open minded to here what might be out there. I suspect there is nothing beyond social media chat but Id like to hear more!

People need to be careful about who they are accusing of doping. You only have  to look at the case of when the Yastremska  family successfully sued the Daily Telegraph to know that. Simon Briggs was the journalist involved. I agree about bigger names and not just in tennis. Look at athletics for a start.

Tara Moore has eventually appeared on the ITIA sanction list. The date of sanction was 27th May with the suspension issued 8th June. There is a player on the list called Elsa Wan. It's more a case of Elsa Lost. The sanction list could be a topic on Pointless. In order to win the prize money the contestants would  have to name somebody on the list. Bar a couple of people on the list you would be hard pressed to name anybody. They are just people who one has never heard of.

It seems highly unlikely that the only players who are doping are very unsuccessful at tennis. Far more likely is that either better players are much better at concealing their doping or that there is no will to catch better players. Incidentally excessive acne is apparently often a side effect of steroids!

The answer to that is definitely no on the current list. Certainly the highest  ranked player to be sanctioned in  2021 or 2022 was Dayana Yastremska. At the end of it all  that she returned to tennis after 6 months.  Additionally the Yastremska family  received  damages in 2022 from a story the Telegraph ran online during her suspension. The paper had to apologise for the distress and damage to their reputations. Reputation wise it was probably the worst player the paper had to apologise to. It was about par for the course when she retired against Emma within 2 points of losing on Monday.

Added just commenting on "top players " on the list not acne!

Talking about acne and steroids there was the  world champion East German sprinter  Katrin Krabbe of the early nineties who had bad acne. Then in 1992  along with 2 of her team mates she tested positive for an illegal stimulant.
