Gabi Taylor was impressive last month in Morocco, and she gets the opportunity to continue her ascent of the ITF rankings in 2 weeks of tournaments here
R1 (L32)
Gabriella Patricia Taylor (GBR) v Miyo Kobayashi (JPN)
Another good and convincing win over a seed there. Happily they keep on coming.

I really think it's Thailand versus Sri Lanka in the much coveted "most complicated name competition" - are there any other nations who can realistically take these two on?! India does have its moments, but I think Thailand and Sri Lanka have an edge and show real consistency. Game on!
Madagascar has everyone beat in this respect. Malagasy names are almost utterly impenetratable. Their two current WTA players are:
Honourable mention to some Polynesian Islands, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, and also to the Khoi Bushmen of sub-Shahan Africa (Namibia mostly) - their language contains a series of clicks and guttaral noises that can't really be represented in text.

Gabriella Taylor (GBR) d. (4) Maika Jae Tanpoco (PHI) 6-4 6-2
Serene progress so far into the quarter final where she plays a seeded Thai player.
QF: Gabriella Taylor (GBR) VERSUS (7) Tamachan Momkoonthod (THA)

Aha! The mystery is solved. Those annoying occasional blanks we see on drawsheets from the ITF website must presumably be Khoi Bushmen or Bushwomen!! They get everywhere.
For anyone interested Tennis Forum has a thread on longest names in women's tennis, though they include Spaniards etc. who use more than 2 names. The first page list hasn't been updated to include the impressively named second Madagascan (though she is referred to on a later page). Even Gabi would make it on to the leader board because of her registered middle name

Thank you for that, a very entertaining 2 minute diversion.
Sadly, I had to actively hold myself from downloading lists of historical names and calculating the string lengths in Excel, to search for a new champion.

I'm pretty sure Nantenaina Ramalalaharivololona (i.e. the 2nd Madagascan shown above) has the longest 2-word unhypenated name of any tennis player ... I'm also fairly sure her compatriots Aina and Validoa Rafolomanantsiatosika have the longest surname.
