RE: Week 47 - ITF ($75K+H) - Toyota, Japan Carpet

It looks like another big fight for Sam, but this is now the biggest single week points haul of her career and means she will move up to GB no. 6 ahead of Tara ... and to the edge of the top 250!

Bath Academy have confirmed on Twitter that Sam has got a SE for Dubai 75K as well as a result of today's win. (she must be getting a bit tired though!)

Given the 'same continent' rule, 8000 km must be about as far as it's possible to go from one tournament to claim a SE in another!

Nice to see someone get consistent, back-to-back results that back up an extend her ranking. Well done.

Good news that.

But the point about fatigue is well made. Having been from Europe to North America, Japan and then on to the Middle East in a whistle stop tour, has to be taking it's toll.

I suppose she understandably wants to maximise her Indian summer of excellent form and confidence whilst it lasts though.

Sam's SF is second up, after 02:00 UK time tomorrow morning.

If she makes the journey, I think you should announce this on Twitter as a record and wait to see if anyone corrects you.

A World Record for Murray!

I was going to LOL ... but as you have guessed, I'm going to wait to at least see whether she is in the main draw - that still doesn't mean she won't pull out before R1 is played, but usually would mean she'd play.

There don't seem to have been any SEs in the Dubai event for the last couple of years, so it's possible it's a first.

There must be something about the name Murray!

So pleased that Sam is doing well!

Another fab performance from Sam, looked liked it was going to be routine, then got very messy, before somehow turning it around in the third.
Was up watching some NFL turkey action so was following the match live and can confirm like others that it was very frustrating to follow but we got the right result in the end.

I'd be impressed with anyone that could have predicted at the start of the year this top 10 order for GB women :

1. Heather Watson ( 3 at start of year )

2. Laura Robson ( 4 )

3. Anne Keothavong ( 2 )

4. Johanna Konta ( N/A but was between Emily and Tara at 6 and 7 )

5. Elena Baltacha ( 1 )

6. Samantha Murray ( 10 )

7. Tara Moore ( 7 )

8. Naomi Broady ( 5 )

9. Lisa Whybourn ( 12 )

10. Amanda Carrerras ( 15 )

Sam ( we presume ) and Tara playing Dubai next week, so Tara could get back past, but the way Sam is going... And Naomi and Lisa are very close, if they take to the court again this year.

Is it 6 of those that have had a CH this year? And Lisa also very close?
Things shaping up for next year, are they all starting to drag each other on to better achievements throughout our women? Slowly, but is an effect starting to show?
Maybe not...?

Ok, way ahead of myself as usual. Anyone got the cut-offs for the AO qualifiers for the last few years? Cant find them anywhere.

This year it seems to have been 221. In 2010 it was 218. In 2009 it was 219. In 2011 it appears that Mladanovic was last in ranked 300, the next highest was 235 so clearly no-one ranked from 236 to 299 was in Aus at the time. (info from TennisForum, apologies if numbers are wrong, I've just used their original threads). 96 player draw in qualifying, 8 WCs.

Interestingly most of the good stuff has happened since you arrived on the forum, you must have produced positive karma during your late night vigils !

Finally! Some one has said it!
Modesty forebade me from mentioning it myself.
Of course, those in the know noticed it.
They wanted me for next Director General of the BBC you know? And Chelsea Manager and to direct the new Star Wars movies and...

And, we're underway.
Set 1: Kimi to serve first.

Game 1: Kimi holds to 30

*0-1

Game 2: Sam a bit slow of the mark on her service today. Straight to *0-40, but wins the next 5 points to get to Adv.

However loses the next three and is broken, despite 9 first serves in the 10 points. Early days though.

0-2*

Game 3: Kimi holds again to 30. Sam apparently in those games at least. Not the start we'd of hoped for, but plenty of time to change that.

*0-3

Game 4: From *40-15 up same lost 3 straight points to face another BP, but saved it (good to get that done early, unlike yesterday).

But, Kimiko breaks on another chance, from the second deuce. Sam needs to convert these good positions in games.

0-4*

Game 5: Routine hold for Date-Krumm, to 15. This set is disappearing in an awful hurry. 20 minutes played, Sam serving to stay in it.

*0-5
