Poor Ed, 3 challeger weeks, 9 matches played and final FQR in all, but no ranking points. Considering how many futures qualifying rounds he went through early on in the year, Ed must have played a hell of a lot of matches over the course of the year, many for very little reward. But he has still progressed well, the very fact that he started in futures qualifying and ends in challenger qualifying being a very good indication of this.
FQR: (q1) Josh Milton WR 398 beat John Peers (AUS) WR 629 (CH 456 in Jun) by 4 & 3 FQR: (q7) David Rice WR 605 lost to (q3) Christian Harrison (USA) WR 479 by 2 & 4 FQR: (q4) Ed Corrie WR 513 lost to (q5) Chris Guccione (AUS) WR 549 (CH 67 in 2008) by 2 & 2
Ed is 2nd in line for a lucky loser place.
With new rankings:
L32: Alex Bogdanovic WR 369 beat (PR) Jesse Witten (USA) WR 595 (CH 163 in 2010) by 6-4 4-6 6-3
L32: (Q) Josh Milton WR 403 v (3) Denis Kudla (USA) WR 143 (= CH) L32: Dan Smethurst WR 363 v (5) Bobby Reynolds (USA) WR 144 (CH 63 in 2009)
L16: Alex Bogdanovic WR 369 v Milton or (3) Kudla
As the Count implies, any more wins for Brits here would be a bit of a shock, but here's hoping for at least one!

as if it was ever in doubt - Milton drew Kulda, winner to play Alex. Going to be a tough one for Milton as Kudla is on form, won Charlottsville the other week ans has made a couple of QF's indoors too.

Could imagine Mr Bogdanovic beating Mr Kudla but would be surprised by any others. Interesting crop of young US players coming through on both mens and womens sides. Feels as if the young pros (Kudla, Sock, Harrison, McHale, Stephens, Davis, Keys, Min etc) and the older ex-university players (Johnson, Williams, Klahn, Burdette, Gibbs etc) are forming quite a solid group of talent.
Wow, however fit Reynolds was he played the full match, so presumably couldn't have been that terrible and Dan won in straight sets. Seems a great result, especially as he hadn't appeared to be in that great form the last few weeks. So it will more than do me
Reynolds at WR 144 represents a CH win for Dan, beating his previous best CH win of WR 175 ( Andrej Martin of Slovakia ) from Bath last year.
Maybe Reynolds was a bit worn down after reaching the challenger final in Knoxville last week. He also reached twp challenger semis in October, so certainly has been in very decent form.
