The Spaniards take the first set 6-4 after an early break. Jonny & Freddie unable to convert any of 7 breakpoints

The Spaniards are playing the big points better, saving another breakpoint and then breaking Freddie with a return winner. Jonny struggling with his return game.

4-6 2-3*

A rare good return from Jonny forces an error and retrieves the break

3*-3

Granollers finds a couple of great returns to set up 3 matchpoints, and the Spaniards take the second. Disappointing to end the partnership with a below-par performance, but the highs have been great

4-6 3-6

Nielsen missed 3 returns on sudden death points on the Lopez serve.

In contrast to their first 2 matches they actually won one more point then their opponents and lost.

Nielson was erratic throughout the match with moments of brilliance combined with some very poor misses and he returned really well apart from on break points. Jonny was pretty solid throughout the match but struggled on return.

Hopefully Jonny has done enough this week, and last week, to bag himself a decent partner for next year.

Actually they won 2 more points according to the ATP site, 59-57, which is quite something for a 4-6 3-6 scoreline, although I guess much more likely in doubles where you can win games by one point as the Spaniards quite clearly often did, winning 12 out of 14 BPs for or against.

6 out of the 14 doubles matches at the O2 have been won by the pair scoring fewer ponts, although the other 5 matches did go to a MTB.
