30 points from 3 $10k futures in 3 weeks at 17 years old is a great effort, and a fine way to end the year. Losing 5 straight games from 5-2 in the final set is really disappointing, and I hope we find out a little of what happened. Assuming it wasn't a physical problem, it shows that the tennis scoring system really lends itself to a rapid momentum shift. Kyle had break points and match points, was 1 point from victory or holding serve near the end on various occasions but it wasn't meant to be. Long term, this defeat might be a superb learning experience, so long as he knows WHY it fell apart so close to the finishing line.
Good luck for next year!
Without watching it, I suspect it is an exagerration to say that it fell apart. As you said momentum can be quite a thing in tennis, and from what I read, at the least, from 5 - 2 Kyle still has had BP / MPs at 5 - 2, game points at 5 - 5 and it went to deuce in that final game. But if he can take anything out of what happened in these last few games, rather than just more being one of these things, then it will have been helpful.
