Week 44 - ITF ($75K) Barnstaple, UK Hard

bet365 thought it was all over (i.e. 0 & 1) and I wasn't watching the very end of the 7th game of the 2nd set, but it turns out Jade won the game and Barbat is now serving up 6-0 *5-3

0 & 3 is pretty disappointing against an opponent in moderate but unspectacular form.
But, at least some guy just fixed the webcam, so Naomi's match will have the sound back!

Edit: corrected score from 2 to 3

Well I thought Barbat won that game as well but then they seemed to change ends after Barbat won a point and continued the match.

Anyway, Jade lost 6-0 6-3 (and nearly got it back on serve).

Ah, so it was 0 & 3 - I was trying to work why the scoreboard on the stream (which, farcically, was a point or two behind the action throughout) showed Barbat serving at *5-2 when I was sure Jade had been serving the even games throughout and, since Barbat was actually serving, assumed it was me who had gone mad! So it was actually a whole game behind at the end bleh (and had the wrong server for the score it actually showed, albeit the right one for what was actually happening on court)

bet365 have got the players and the scores the wrong way round in Naomi's match.

Well, they do look very similar (long blonde hair, even longer legs) from the back! Seriously though, I've never seen that before. They seem to have sorted it out now, though the game by game history is still wrong.

Actually, I thought the scoreboard on the stream had the players the wrong way round initially as well, but that may be because it was just behind again - that's why I checked bet365 as well and by the time I had time to look again, bet365 was still wrong but the stream score looked correct to within a point or two.

Breaks at the start of the 2nd set, largely due to LS's errors.

Looks comfortable at 40-0, gets careless then helped by a tame error from LS 2-0*

And an early break for Naomi in the second set: 6-3 *1-0

If she serves like in the first set she will win from here

...especially as she breaks again for *3-0

More errors from LS help Naomi to *3-0

Naomi's first serve goes missing but she still holds to 30 for 4-0*

LS easy hold to love for *4-1

NB saves 3 bps from 0-40 only to lose the next two points 4-2*

Easy hold for LS *4-3

What happened there ? I was sure NB's forehand was called out then the next point looked like an unreturned first serve. 5-3*

NB breaks to love, lucky netcord winner bringing up mp 6-3

Tara breaks at the start of the match *1-0

LTA stream is working. Bet365's isn't.

Tara 2-0*

Tara needs 4bps before finally getting the break *3-0

Tara careless with a forehand drive volley at 30-30 as she gets broken 3-1*

JC's backhand drop shot fails to make it over the net as she is broken to love *4-1

Tara unimpressive as she is broken to love 4-2*

JC comfortable hold *4-3

Tara's forehand on fire, finishing with an ace as she holds to love 5-3*

Lucky netcord winner on bp, looked to be heading wide, gives Tara the opening set 6-3.

Some good tennis from Tara in the opening set. Not sure about her stance returning 2nd. She's so close she ends up retreating once her opponent has served.

Comfortable hold for Tara 1-0*

JC holds as Tara is careless too often *1-1

Much better from TM as she holds to love 2-1* Tara winning 91% behind her first serve

JC holds from 30-30 for *2-2

Cepelova took the second set, 2-6.
*1-1 in the decider; one break each.

From *40-0, Tara loses 5 straight points, including consecutive DF's, and is broken. 1-2*

She really looked quite classy at times, and it's a mystery to me why she isn't ranked pretty much up alongside Johanna.
14 points for that win leaves her with just 10 to come off this year (as she'll add 2x1's back in). Having beaten the seed in her section, the next match is winnable - either Craybas or Sirotkina - but still well against the odds.

Well done to the GB girls who already today have made me look stupid - again. Winning 2 MD matches when I thought we'd do well to get one. I'm off to gobble up humble pie.

Bet 365 have 4 matches marked as being streamed today, including both Naomi's and Tara's, at tentatively, 1.00 and 2.30 respectively.

Presumably they will be available on the LTA site also.

Saw the Latvian girl play in Glassgow

I think Anne may struggle, Diana is on the way up.

So much for the "British section" of the qualifying draw - Barbat has just bagelled Jade in the 1st set
