Good win for Sam 6-2, 6-4. I am baffled by her sudden surge in form though. Will this level be the norm? Does she have more? I don't know enough about her. What sort of game does she have?

That now takes Sam up to 173 ranking points, currently equivalent to WR 287, and one point behind Naomi Broady ( on 174 points and the GB no 7 )

Yes. I wondered if Glasgow was a bit peculiar ( well of course it is, but I meant the tennis tournament wink  ). But she's certainly following it up quite impressively this week. It does indeed seem a sudden surge.

What think those who have maybe seen Sam in action ?

That's 7 wins in a row for Sam ... the last 6 all against higher-ranked opponents!

L16: Samantha Murray WR 371  beat  Michaela Honcova (SVK) WR 296 (= CH)    6 - 2    6 - 4

QF : Samantha Murray WR 371  vs  (1) Melanie Oudin (USA) WR 98 ( CH 31 in April 2010 )

Hmm, what to make of Oudin. She still seems very inconsistent and although her ranking is back into the top 100, that owes much to her very good week on Birmingham's grass in June. There she beat many good players and collected a whopping 290 points. In the last couple of months or so her results have included losing 0 & 2 to Glatch and losing 0 & 1 to Mladenovic, both outside the top 100.

If Sam had to play a top 100 player, I could currently think of many more concerning than Oudin  ( possibly not that far off 99  smile )
