Thing is I suspect part of the reason Andy entered here ( and gave himself 3 weeks in a row ) was because of last year and trying to make up for it.  Best intentions and all that...

But if he is having some back problemss again, even if not really serious, I'm afraid this made sense.

I haven't taken a huge account of what Roger says for some time.

Playing 3 weeks in a row at this time of the year (when they are all worn out anyway) was always a bad idea. It won't endear him to the Basel organisers, though.

Federer may well publicly criticise him, like last year, but privately is probably thanking his lucky stars.
